I believe if the '07 immigration bill made it to her desk she would sign it and Sanders wouldn't. Upwards of fifteen million people would be citizens today, instead many are still living in the shadows as some of our countries most oppressed.

Sharing that tidbit as a much larger thought on why I'm supporting her.

The little mayor from Burlington managed to foresee that going to war with Iraq would destabilize the region. His opponent, who has all this great experience? Not so much. But she does want to challenge Putin with a no-fly zone in Syria. What a wonderful idea. What could possibly go wrong? That's really putting to use all that great experience.

They're the same in a lot of ways, but in a few ways Bernie is way to the left. Either of our candidates can win. (I've heard the Bernie supporters say Hillary can't win, and I've heard the Hillary supporters say Bernie can't win, and I don't believe either of you. One or the other of them will be the next president. All the Republican candidates are horrible.)

We very likely won't have an opportunity to elect someone so liberal again. I think we should do it when we have the chance.

Either Clinton or Sanders would be immeasurably better as president than any Republican. Neither will be able to deliver all that much, because of the Congress, but if elected either would make things a little better, rather than a lot worse.

I think that Clinton would be more likely than not to beat Trump, and would probably but by no means certainly lose to Cruz or Rubio.

I think that Sanders might possibly beat Trump, but would be stomped all over by any other Republican.

Why do I think that? All the obvious reasons you'll see cited again and again if you read political analysis from outside the echo chamber - vetting, the S-word, appeal outside the core vote, the failure of Goldwater and McGovern campaigns, funding, experience, realism, etc...

I'm not an American, but if I were, I'd unhesitatingly vote for Clinton.

Probably cocaine felony, too, but the judge and witness have died and all the records are lost. Well DU2 from 2005 still has some of the story:

Know your BFEE: George W Bush did "community service" at Project P.U.L.L.

(He would later steal an election and then lie America into war on a country that was no threat to the United States.)

Then there's Bernie Sanders, arrested for standing up for his fellow citizens.

Gee. So, which of those two would you rather elect as president?

59. Okay, here are a few reasons I support Sanders
Sun Feb 28, 2016, 05:23 PM
Feb 2016

1. Perhaps my number one concern is the environment. I trust Sanders to make the right choices for environmental agency's leadership and environmental policy. I believe he will make a real effort to push alternative energy technology forward. Contrasted to Clinton who has advocated for fracking and who didn't oppose the Keystone Pipeline until this past September (http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/22/politics/hillary-clinton-keystone-pipeline-history/).

2. Sanders is more restrained about resorting to military action. Clinton seems much more hawkish.

3. While Sanders might not be able to get all of his financial policies through congress, I am also thinking about what he WON'T do. What sort of legislation he would STOP, what sort of cabinet he'll put together. The fact that he's not beholden to financial special interests makes me trust his decisions better than Clinton's.

4. Again, while I acknowledge that Sanders might not be able to get all of his policies through congress, I would prefer a President who is at least trying to get progressive thing done. No candidate is going to get all their policies enacted and I especially disagree that Clinton would have any easier time with a Republican congress getting progressive legislation though. She might get Republican, pro-Wall Street legislation passed, but that's nothing I'd want to see happen.

5. I have many more reasons that I think Sanders is the better choice, including him addressing the US's crumbling infrastructure, free public university (which would merely put us on par with much of the 'developed' world), his healthcare proposal is the only thing that makes sense to me for a civilized country to have, etc.

Matariki

(18,775 posts)
67. Okay, I'll sum all that up into one thing
Sun Feb 28, 2016, 05:34 PM
Feb 2016

I trust Sanders to do the progressive things he's campaigned on, or at least to fight for those things. I trust him to NOT make cabinet appointments that are counter those things. I trust him to veto things that are very detrimental to progressive values.

And in contrast, I don't trust Clinton on the same issues. She's changed too many of her positions at politically opportune times far too often and she has far too many ties to people who's interests are counter to progressive values.

That's really it in a nutshell for me.

91. Voting Rights is one of my passions and Clinton has the best platform for Voting Rights
Sun Feb 28, 2016, 06:08 PM
Feb 2016

The Clinton platform is one of the best set of proposals to protect the right to vote that I have seen and this is one of my passions. https://www.hillaryclinton.com/issues/voting-rights/

Hillary has laid out her vision for how to expand access to the ballot box for all Americans and how to defend against the systematic, deliberate efforts to stop millions of citizens from participating in our democracy:

Repairing the Voting Rights Act. Congress should move quickly to pass legislation that would fix the damage done to the Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court and restore the full protections American voters need and deserve. These protections are crucial for young and minority voters, seniors, and other underrepresented groups disproportionately affected by harmful Republican efforts to restrict voting.

Setting a new national standard for early voting
. It’s time to set a standard across our country of at least 20 days of early in-person voting, including opportunities for evening and weekend voting. This will reduce long lines and give more people an opportunity to vote, especially those who have work or family obligations during the day. Early in-person voting isn’t just convenient—it’s also more secure, more reliable, and more affordable than absentee voting.

Implementing universal, automatic voter registration. Every citizen in every state should be automatically registered to vote when they turn 18, unless they choose to opt out. At the same time, we need to make sure that registration rolls are secure, up to date, and accurate. When you move, your registration should move with you. Modernizing registration will add tens of millions of voters to the rolls, cost less, and reduce the potential for errors or irregularities.

I was first drawn to him because of his authenticity but he really won me over in the debate when asked what was the number one issue we face and he answered "climate change". That set him apart and above all the others in my opinion. I also think he is the most likely to win over independents and even some republicans and therefore is the most electable.

Uh-oh - I got started and couldn't stop at just one thing. Sorry!

She spoke about in her campaign launch speech, and she had a detailed plan on her website from day one.

She's committed to act on it on her first 100 days in office.

firsthand the devastation in Iraq as well as other places over a long military career and am still dealing with a variety of issues related to it (if you can believe family and professionals). I was a true believer, confident our elected representatives had our best interests in mind, but I had no clue how wrong I was.

I will never vote for, never support, never give the time of day to or have the six for the likes of a Clinton or a republican. As far as I can tell, this is THE defining election for me in my lifetime, if we maintain the status quo by putting Clinton or a similar republican in office, the only thing we can be assured of is more of the same. That's not what I want to leave my daughter, and I don't want her to ever consider joining the military, or have to, to get an education because it's too expensive otherwise.

The funny thing is, I have far more confidence in Sanders, a bona-fide conscientious objector, than any other politician I have ever considered voting for.

It's a good one.

I can't see the video on my mobile phone but I'll try to watch it later when I get back to the computer. I do trust Bernie most to respect the lives of our military because he sees things from the point of view of the common people.

I lived through the era of his horrendous war crimes, so it is just plain unforgivable.

But long before I learned that awful fact, I found that I agreed with virtually everything Bernie Sanders has to say--rigged economy, rigged political system, our MORAL duty to save our planet--and what he proposes to do--and his forgoing Superpacs and Corporate/Billionaire money is just AWESOME. I've dreamed of such a candidate for decades!

My support for Bernie is very positive. I think he'll make one of the greatest presidents of the United States we've ever had. Maybe the greatest, considering the stakes now with global warming.

I also happen to think that Clinton is one of the most corrupt Democrats we've ever seen. I wish she wasn't, so we could have a real discussion of people-oriented policy, but she is, so we can't have that discussion. I don't trust anything she says. It's Goldman Sachs speaking--lying.

Anyway, I gave up on her when she fucked over Honduras. And that's another matter on which I agree with Sanders: He has opposed U.S. "regime change" all his life, whether it's destroying elected officials in a country like Chile because they're leftists (Kissinger!!!) or overthrowing tyrants and not having a clue what to do next, thus the disastrous destabilization of the Middle East.

Why do you want just one thing? There are so many!

Bernie's the oldest candidate for what's a physically draining job. After watching him at the last debate I don't think he's capable of lasting more than one term if elected. If he gets the nomination he better pick a highly qualified running mate.

Sanders has said that he and Hillary agree on more than they disagree. A chart was shown when were both in the Senate they voted the same way 93% of the time.

Hillary because she may get some progressive legislation through Congress.

I like both candidates and will vote in both the primary and the general election. My state's primary isn't until June & I don't plan to decide till then.
