The challenge for women, for Hillary

I'm from Massachusetts. Consider that in this very liberal state we did not have a woman in a top elected position until Elizabeth Warren in 2012. Women are discriminated against, especially in politics.

That reality can be tested at virtually every level of government. There is no reasonable reason why women should be so vastly underrepresented. I think sexism has subtle undercurrents that affect us at every level, some of which are not even brought into consciousness. This is the obstacle that women face. I read, for instance, that Margaret Thatcher trained herself to talk an octave lower so that she would be taken seriously enough to win the election for Prime Minster of Britain. Obama once referred to Hillary's claws coming out. When people refer to Hillary's cackling instead of her laugh, it underscores the kind of problem that Hillary is up against.

This does not diminish the reality that Hillary will largely preserve the status quo, while Bernie will seek hard to change it for the better. But whether she wins or loses to Bernie or to Trump, she will have had to contend with intangible challenges of gender that are probably rooted in biology.

2 women Democrats as Governors. (not nearly enough for sure)

Lots of women have been governors in lots of states. Now I do not dispute your argument here, it is very hard for women but it just surprises me that Massachusetts has not, until Warren, had a top elected woman. I would have guessed otherwise and almost bet on it.

I am staying with Bernie for this election but I have to admire that Hillary has come through an awful lot that no man will ever have to put up with. It will just get worse if she gets to the general. She is tough, that is certain.

Bernie's ideas are just too good to pass up, but if Hillary gets the nomination she has my vote easily.
