Bill's' Coattails? Why the "love"?

I don't quite understand what Hillary has done specifically for the Black community that makes her considered a "shoe-in". From articles I read, the connection was all about Bill--his poor southern roots and personal interactions that were the draw--you all know Toni Morrisson's quip about Bill being the "first Black President"... Is this "love" simply a wash over from Bill because she is his wife? Her own background is nothing like his.

One article (from 2002) mentioned of those who didn't like Bill:
"They tend, disproportionately, to be academics, social and political activists, many of whom are very bright people and who are on the cutting edge of these political discussions."

Much like those criticizing Hillary now:
From the crime bill to welfare reform, policies that Bill Clinton enacted—and Hillary Clinton supported—decimated black America.

It is difficult to overstate the damage that’s been done. Generations have been lost to the prison system; countless families have been torn apart or rendered homeless; and a school-to-prison pipeline has been born that shuttles young people from their decrepit, underfunded schools to brand-new high-tech prisons.

It didn’t have to be like this. As a nation, we had a choice. Rather than spending billions of dollars constructing a vast new penal system, we could have spent those billions putting young people to work in inner-city communities and investing in their schools so that they might have some hope of making the transition from an industrial to a service-based economy. Constructive interventions would have been good not only for African Americans trapped in ghettos but also for blue-collar workers of all colors. At the very least, Democrats could have fought to prevent the further destruction of black communities rather than ratcheting up the wars declared on them.

Back to older article: "The issues that his critics tend to beat up on him about tend not to be issues that resonate with the rank and file of the African-American community."

So, does this mean that the serious issues that Bernie Sanders wants to eradicate count as low priority to the average Black voter in the south, which is assumed to be Hillary's fortress?

Just accept that it is, and work to win voters over to Bernie wherever you can. What matters is total votes, not who specific voters are. If you can win over over black voters, great, if you can't, but can win over other voters, equally great. People tell you they just aren't into Bernie, let them be and move on to folks who are more open.
