It's Official! Former Labor Secretary under the Clinton Administration endorses Bernie!

I endorse Bernie Sanders for President of the United States. He’s leading a movement to reclaim America for the many, not the few. And such a political mobilization – a “political revolution,” as he puts it -- is the only means by which we can get the nation back from the moneyed interests that now control so much of our economy and democracy.

This extraordinary concentration of income, wealth, and political power at the very top imperils all else – our economy, our democracy, the revival of the American middle class, the prospects for the poor and for people of color, the necessity of slowing and reversing climate change, and a sensible foreign policy not influenced by the “military-industrial complex,” as President Dwight Eisenhower once called it. It is the fundamental prerequisite: We have little hope of achieving positive change on any front unless the American people are once again in control.

I have the deepest respect and admiration for Hillary Clinton, and if she wins the Democratic primary I’ll work my heart out to help her become president. But I believe Bernie Sanders is the agent of change this nation so desperately needs.

You don't give the side eye unless the comments are untruthful. Which they werent.

http://www.thenation.com/article/bernie-sanders-talks-primary-challenge-obama-good-idea-our-democracy-and-democratic-part/

SANDERS: Brian, believe me, I wish I had the answer to your question. Let me just suggest this. I think there are millions of Americans who are deeply disappointed in the president; who believe that, with regard to Social Security and a number of other issues, he said one thing as a candidate and is doing something very much else as a president; who cannot believe how weak he has been, for whatever reason, in negotiating with Republicans and there’s deep disappointment. So my suggestion is, I think one of the reasons the president has been able to move so far to the right is that there is no primary opposition to him and I think it would do this country a good deal of service if people started thinking about candidates out there to begin contrasting what is a progressive agenda as opposed to what Obama is doing.
.
.
.
So I would say to Ryan discouragement is not an option. I think it would be a good idea if President Obama faced some primary opposition.

When students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, asked that Clinton return her $225,000 speaking fee, Clinton noted that "all of the fees have been donated to the Clinton Foundation for it to continue its life-changing and life-saving work."

"So it goes from a foundation at a university to another foundation," Clinton told ABC News, with regard to the UNLV speech.

...
Our ruling

Occupy Democrats claimed Clinton "has donated every cent she's ever earned from speaking fees to charity."

That’s a misreading of Clinton’s comments in 2014, when she said speaking fees at colleges and universities were donated to the Clinton Foundation.

Clinton’s financial disclosure form includes 51 speeches in which Clinton was compensated directly.

This claim rates False.[/div]

I could bore you with how Hillary receives money (but tastefully, though, through the Clinton Global Initiative)

He is the former Sec. of Commerce under Ronnie. One of his aims is to privatize Social Security.
Chelsea gives the occasional speech on the Foundation's behalf (no, Mom doesn't do that - that'd be in bad taste).

No single person would be getting such an exorbitant salary for so little work.

Similar to what would most likely/logically happen if we had single-payer healthcare in this country.

When there's only one source of funds (as there would be in both cases), proper due diligence is often brought to bear, and nobody ends up being paid in a manner that's so non-commensurate with what they actually DO.

I'm hard pressed to detect any "facts" in any of your posts (at least on this particular thread). But it's charming that you think that, really it is.

113. No, you just quote right wing sources, namely the Daily Caller

They (and you by proxy) are quoting Reich's total compensation which is far higher than what his professorship earns. Reich was also a board member at the time Carson's rag quoted the figure. Also as anyone who has ever been to graduate school knows, professors spend far more time working off the podium than on, so the idea that he's only working only 4 hours per week is just stupid. Reich makes no where near the top salary paid to his peers. If you're going to have a graduate school and you want to attract top talent, you're going to have to pay 6 figures. Reich could easily make more money in the private sector.

So what you are is someone who carries water for Tucker Fucking Carson, and like Tucker Fucking Carson, factual is what you are not.

Disrespect public servants much? What a disgustingly ugly thing to come out of the mouth of a Democrat.

He teaches one class and gets paid nearly $250k. He's the perfect fucking example of why tuition is so damn high.

I'm glad he got paid $250k. More EXPERTS SHOULD get paid what they're worth... teachers are woefully underpaid consistently... so that Robert got paid $250k for a speech just means the schools are catching up on what they really owe him, as far as I'm concerned.

76. And it's what Hillary gets for one speech of under one hour. What he gets for a year long class.

You understand that 250K a year is a very good salary, while 250K a day is astronomical. When you hear a film star gets $20 for a film that took three months to shoot that's 250K a day, Hillary's rate for a Corporate speech give or take. Reich's yearly is a daily for Hillary and like, Jennifer Lawrence.

I had my doubts about Mr. Reich and his ties to the Clintons and the establishment. I always loved his speeches, but he would never quite go far enough in his condemnations nor his solutions. But he is a changed man these days and I for one am grateful for having him on our side. Robert, you make the right choice and I respect you for it.
