2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRachel Maddow is talking about low turnout on the Democrats' side
Wonder if that has anything to do with the media telling us all that one candidate is a lock and the other is unelectable? Or by some miracle if that candidate does wins he will not be able to get anything done. Never mind the fact that one candidate is campaigning on a platform of status quo and no we can't. Hmmm maybe we have a failure to inspire led by the media.

(51,076 posts)and had to turn the tv off when Rachel came on. I remember when I used to like her very much but she's too much of a shill for Hillary for me now. I want my tv personalities to be neutral and keep their preferences to themselves. Do the interview or what ever, just give me facts, not bias bullshit.

(7,661 posts)but it is obvious that there is an effort by many news personalities to push one candidate over the other.

(58,785 posts)Come on. She's never been "neutral" for even one single political segment on public radio or public TV. And she hasn't changed a bit, either.
Face it, she's had many good things to say about Bernie and has also criticized Hillary. It's the vice versa that so unreasonably arouses anger in hyper-partisan sorts.
I'm personally very glad she's on OUR side. Go, Rachel -- get those damned kids out...!

(14,587 posts)That's actually a pretty good theory. Happily, I got a call from Bernie's campaign tonight reminding me to caucus.

(7,661 posts)should of never let that sooooshilist run as Democrat. The DNC should of made him run on a third party ticket so if Hillary fails in the GE he can be blamed and hated for years and years.......

(72,790 posts)Bernie seems to have a message that a lot of folks seem to love, but why isn't he winning in a landslide?
And Hillary seems to have her base voting for her, but it doesn't seem like she has much appeal outside of her base.

UglyGreed
(7,661 posts)may be keeping Bernie down. We all know he is fighting a uphill battle. But of course if you look at Trump he is saying nothing and being attacked but still people flock to him so I don't know what the answer is. Hillary is Hillary and I feel she will struggle in the GE.

(1,192 posts)They've been hammering into democratic voters that Bernie can't win, while they won't shut the fuck up about Trump (and not just news media outlets, btw. All the late night talk shows and comedy shticks about Trump completely normalized him and his outrageous views).
And gee, I wonder why people thought Trump would win (and then show up to vote), and they didn't turn out for a candidate that they were constantly told could never, ever win.

How's it going?

(4,775 posts)yet Rachel was on the air afterwards using the total state turnout, which was down from '08, as evidence that Bernie wasn't driving people to the polls. Yet he got more votes than anyone ever.
False narrative Rachel is pushing.
It is your candidate who is depressing turnout and who will do so in the general election should we make the mistake of nominating her.

(4,775 posts)South Carolina is a tough sell for Bernie. The Democratic demographic is largely AA, and the state is very conservative. So I think he'll do very poorly in that state.
It looks like he will win some states Tuesday, not much though, a favorable llineup for Hillary.
After that, we'll see. It's a tough fight for sure, one I'm happy to help with, I have never had the opportunity until now to vote for a POTUS candidate who represents what I believe in.
UglyGreed
(7,661 posts)is a very powerful tool. Bush used it to go to war and even your candidate was "sucked" into supporting that war. I understand you and your wife are connected to Wall Street and by your posts you are pretty well off so this low turnout is in your favor and that is fine. The rest of the "regular people" are very worried about what is happening and if we can not overcome this propaganda from the media and even online then we are at the mercy of Wall Street and the 0.1 percent which IMO won't be pretty since greed is ugly and greed kills.

(94,728 posts)...either way, we don't have "connections".
We would both be happy with having our taxes raised; we would both be happy with a Single Payer health care system. We just don't think Sanders can get elected to implement either.

(7,661 posts)My friend's brother in law's wife owns a construction business that has Wall Street clients and they are millionaires BTW I also recall you telling someone who complained about getting a mailer from the DNC or some other Democrat solicitation that seemed to favor Hillary that you do not get those "generic" mailers so that led me to believe you have made some pretty big donations or something. Maybe I misunderstood or you were joking but it seemed that you were saying you have some connections. I'm not saying it is bad to be successful and you both most likely worked very hard to get where you are. I just got the impression you either have connections or know some powerful people in the Democratic party.

(94,728 posts)My point was, not every wealthy person is "Wall Street" or has "connections" which guide their thinking.

(58,417 posts)Bernie for most of last year and the corruption/incompetence, take your pick of Schultz's DNC cynically screwing with the debates in an effort to install Hillary as the nominee didn't help turnout one bit.
The Republicans had carte blanche coverage from the corporate media conglomerates while the DNC was busy picking lint from its belly navel, and Trump was given priceless unlimited free air time no matter the inanity or drivel that he was spewing.
Thanks for the thread, UglyGreed.

(13,340 posts)It just not up to the record setting levels of 2008. Let's fce it, ther is no Barack Obama in the race. I'd vote for hi,m again, if I could.

(1,127 posts)The media generally despises him, especially the pigs at Fox news, yet reps have a record turnout everywhere because Trump inspires a movement. Bernie could be inspiring if he went full bore after Clinton and the media and didnt give a damn what anyone thought. However, unlike Trump, he wants to work within the system to defeat Hillary, and thats not inspiring.
