Familiar Democratic Donkey Gone From Alabama Ballot. (could really hurt the Dem vote)

MONTGOMERY, Alabama --
The Democratic donkey that has traditionally marked the spot for voting a straight Democratic ticket won't appear on Alabama's ballots Nov. 6.

The Republican elephant will be on the ballots.

A spokeswoman for Alabama's secretary of state says the Democratic Party staff asked to change the party's logo from the head of a donkey to the words "Alabama Democrats." Democratic Party Vice Chairman Joe Reed says the change was never approved by the State Democratic Executive Committee and it could hurt the Democratic vote.

Party Executive Director Bradley Davidson said the party staff was all new and didn't realize they need the approval of the party executive committee. He said the party is contacting Democrats statewide to make sure they look for "Alabama Democrats" instead of a donkey head.
