Obama Raised $29.1 Million in January for His Campaign and the D.N.C.
By NICHOLAS CONFESSORE and DEREK WILLIS
President Obama raised a total of $29.1 million for his re-election campaign and for the Democratic National Committee in January, he told supporters over Twitter early Friday morning, with most contributions coming in checks of $250 or less.
Mr. Obamas numbers are the starting gun for fund-raising in 2012, as the candidates for president begin filing monthly reports of their finances with the Federal Election Commission, along with those super PACs that have opted for monthly filing schedules in the election year. Formal filings are due by midnight on Monday.
Amid signs in recent weeks that overall fund-raising by Mr. Obama and and Democratic-leaning super PACs was failing to keep pace with that of Republican candidates and super PACs, Mr. Obama began a three-day fund-raising swing on the West Coast this week, with events in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Bellevue, Wash., among other cities.

I have contributed to both Obama and DNC, and will most likely do it again in the future.
