2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDisheartened! Trying to get Bernie to quit. Supers say! And Obama does.
On CNN I heard today when interviewing Super Delegates that most (one would vote for the people's choice) would vote to put Hillary in if they could, if the delegates were close enough and Bernie was ahead they would vote Hillary in. Disgusting! They said it with such power and joy.
Then the pundits said next, Bernie (paraphrasing) needs to get out because pretty soon Trump will win and the dems have to shore up their side. That this primary needs to come to an end and Hillary needs to get going against Trump. Like get out of the way Bernie! Uh....really. I absolutely see a revolution of very angry people if the establishment keeps trying to force Bernie out. I am totally upset today and disheartened about who Obama and Hillary really are. I voted for Obama but the change I wanted is not with him (a GOP for SCOTUS, CPI, TPP etc). Saddened and feeling like the corruption, the bribery, the corporate control is really disgusting and getting to me. Perhaps tomorrow will be a better day. Thanks for listening.
P.S. Bernie is the change we desperately need.

Citizen United decision came down Jan 2010.
Those two guys should have gone to the people like Bernie has to get a mandate.

(399 posts)during the Nevada caucus coverage. He told what happened to his dad's campaign back in the 2004 election. The establishment always has a favorite candidate - in 04 it was Kerry, in '16 it is HRC. His father received pressure to not only withdraw from the race but to endorse the establishment candidate. I suspect that Bernie is experiencing the same type of pressure. Hillary of course just brushed it off in 08 and reminded everyone that RFK was killed in June and ya never know what will happen!

(59,504 posts)He got almost no big donor money in fall 2003, when, incidentally Wes Clark Jr's dad had Bill Clinton ' s support. Not to mention, Clark's campaign imploded badly before the Iowa caucus, that he was not competing in. He lost more than half of his peak support in NH before Iowa because he was an awful candidate.
Before he dropped out, he was quoted by the press giving momentum to the "intern" story, which was a complete lie. He did drop out around that time, having had success nowhere other than OK where he won a race with 30 percent , Edwards 30 percent and Kerry at 27 - meaning the delegates split three ways.
Clark was not in Sanders position, of being an underdog, but one who had some minute chance. Not to mention, Edwards did not drop out until Kerry got half of ALL the delegates. Dean and Clark has dropped out far earlier because they were not gaining enough traction. Kerry won every state other than OK, SC, and 2 favorite son states after he had effectively won, NC and VT.
Sanders is in a better position than Edwards was at this point in 2004 when much of the media was pushing him as the better alternative. They continued this until the weekend before Kerry made it mathematically imposible.
As to Clinton, she had every right to stay in to the bitter end, but it was clear that Obama was going to win long before the last primary. Sanders will have the same option and has the same right to do so. Not to mention, we are nowhere near the point where HRC has actually won even though she is favored to do so.

(6,007 posts)For the good of the party and the country, let's end this primary soon. Hillary and the DNC should do the right thing and get behind the better candidate for the general election. Hillary should drop out and start stumping for Bernie. By all objective measures he is the best general election candidate.

(11,785 posts)If HRC needs that many extra months to shore up her support against Trump, maybe we should be looking at the candidate whose numbers are trending up instead of down, the one who's already beating Trump in the polls.

(11,546 posts)DO NOT DISPAIR, Bernie supporters!!
Keep at the course and although it may look bleak within the next couple of weeks, Bernie CAN win and his numbers will pick up within the next month. In April and May he will be even stronger (look at the polls!!) and Hillary will be down and OUT!!
If those SDs go against the will of the people, that will be it for Dems. They will be TOAST!!! But we CANNOT let them decide this for us.

(7,830 posts)The OP description of what the superdelegates said is extremely maddening. If they do this, that's it for me and the unDemocratic Democratic Party. The deck is triple-stacked against the true opponent to the republicans! If the supers do go toward Clinton2 even if popular vote is for Bernie....That's it for me. I'll be an FDR Dem with no representation. That's been the reality now for a while I suppose but I didn't want to face it.
Unless! Unless you are right and Bernie can beat the Goliath of the DNC actively working ag him and the hourly negative media spin.
Here's to hoping! He's got one primary vote from me in Ohio today or tomorrow (early voting).

I'm too lazy to hunt down the individual state polls online but here is a link to Attorney in Texas's post with State polls: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1329699
More important is the directional trend - Sanders is steadily heading up and Clinton is heading down. I can't imagine the recent news about Clinton aides ordered to testify is going to help that trend for her.

(31,170 posts)the result they wanted. You can also adjust those filters too, to look at variables. But the one selected, isn't normal weighting for polls, just one that gave a nice number.
The Fox poll I looked at earlier looks good for Bernie, but so far it's the only one with those numebrs.
And there are several state polls which rightly have Bernie ahead. He will win several, and VT looks to be a huge blowout!
But all the national aggregate numbers still have Hillary leading

(1,089 posts)Trump vs. SBS means they'd actually have to report on a buffoon vs. a serious person who's deadly serious about bringing change to the country. In other words, BORING to the folks who answer for the bottom line for these MSM concerns. They need their ratings, their advertising dollars, their viewers and their clicks. You get those by pitting a reality TV star asshole against one of the most controversial political figures of the past generation. Every day would be a different monkey poop fight. Every day would be filled with drama, lies, deceit, accusations. It'd be like a soap opera that writes itself.
SBS kills all of that. People will only click on stories or listen to teevee sock puppets screaming SOCIALIST for so long before getting bored, even with said reality TV star buffoon in the race.
To me it's quite simple - the MSM is about profit, and that profit skyrockets with an HRC vs. Trump campaign.

(6,551 posts)I am a Hillary supporter. It's Bernie's campaign. It's his to run it. And it seems a bit early to be talking about a Bernie exit.
Bernie is a savvy old coot. He knows that the more delegates he gets, the stronger his leverage when he sits down with Hillary and bargains for his endorsement. He knows it, Hillary knows it, and the outcome of those negotiations may well be the payoff for his campaign and his supporters.
Bernie supporters here seem to think that if he doesn't get the nomination, all is lost and it's another complete victory for the so-called Establishment. Maybe not. It all depends on the outcome of those negotiations.

(12,655 posts)most supers are elected officials themselves, and they know they are out on their butts if they override the will of the voters.
as to the other thing, yes they will push this hard for two reasons. one, they know after super tuesday the calendar is almost all bernie snd if she can't pressure him out whe. she has a little momentum from the southern states she is toast. her team knows this.
also, make no mistake.these legal issues are not going away, and if hillary has to step down, there is no way in hell tptb want bernie at the convention with his delegstes becsuse they will have to nominate him. they want to try and force him out now so they can stick in their stooge of choice.
not gonna happen. bernie knows their tricks better than we do and he is not falling for it.
bernie all the way to 1600!!

(30,099 posts)I agree it is a concern in that voters for the primary season can feel their vote is meaningless
and feel discouraged by this type of undemocratic speech.
That's why OP's like yours should be communicated to everyone you can email,
but as a warning, to not accept their negative message.
Some believe Bernie is the establishment because he has been in politics so
long, but that underscores his message, he is fighting the establishment
on what their candidate fuels her campaign with, and that is lobby money.
Establishment equals quid quo pro. Bernie is standing against all those
special interests and doing so without much help from any insider in the
DNC. Remember, they did not expect him to do as well as he has, and
do not want this threat to continue.
Stay focused, help his campaign in any way you can..have you received
his latest e-mail? They're looking for people who can travel and will
arrange rides for people willing to do so. Don't let them get you down,
that's one their goals..for him to appear politically weak so you don't bother
to stay engaged.
