Bernie Sanders: US should have a national database for police killings – video

The Guardian asked the Democratic presidential candidate if officer-involved killings should be collected in a national database by the US government. Sanders agreed: ‘When individuals die under police apprehension or custody, should that be mandatory? Yes.’ He would also support legislation for mandatory reporting on officer-involved killings

modeled on the excellent Chicago program

http://invisible.institute/police-data/

Designed to serve as a national model of transparency and accountability, the Citizens Police Data Project is a product of a decade-long collaboration with the University of Chicago Law School’s Mandel Legal Aid Clinic.

On Nov. 10, 2015, the Invisible Institute released a database of 56,000 misconduct complaint records for more than 8,500 Chicago police officers.

Go Bernie! This is an outstanding proposal!!!

and only seem to lurk around DU during election cycles - but I'm starting to warm up big time to Sanders.

Will any of this gets done if he's elected? - it remains to be seen. "US Presidents tend to do their usual US president thing"; but the fact that he's even responding to these subjects on the side of transparency instead of the foaming of the mouth side of "It doesn't matter! Stop being a cop hater and let them reign as the judge, jury and executioner with the absolute minimum of repercussions!"
