I need your thoughts, opinions about using Big Bird at a rally.

I purchased 2 5'2" Big Bird balloons to fill with helium.
i planned on posting one on each side of the front door of the rally venue.

The entire front of the building and lawn will be filled with POSItIVE signs about all of Obama's accomplishments. There will be tons of them. Many sizes many colors many messages.

Not one word about PBS, or Sesame St .... Just Big Bird standing like a guard on each side of the front door.

My husbands hair is on fire! He watched John Stewart's eye rolling while playing clips of Obama's many recent reference to BB, and saying "really". ??
My husband is worried that our local paper will focus on BB and that is not good for Obama.

What should I do?

Let it be an understated statement.

things in rallies. Anything goes and that's a very good thing. Part of liberal rallies is the sheer imagination that people put into it. We're a fun loving bunch and we love getting together and sticking it to the opposition with humor and wonderfully worded digs,

Maybe the candidates themselves need to be more serious, but the public doesn't have to be. And in liberal rallies there are children who love Big Bird. I say go for it. You'll probably see a lot of Big Birds. Both in the rally and in Halloween.

I debated with myself on this, but decided your husband might be right and why take the chance.
Edited to agree with comment 1) from onehandle.

You're not including signs (about them) with them. There is nothing to indicate anything other than tacit support of PBS. Maybe you could move them back since they're so large. They can be see from behind shorter signs without being the main focus. They're good props to have. People know exactly what they mean. They don't need emphasis. More like silent sentries behind the messages of the signs.

Have them peeking out from behind the signs. Kind of like that funny shot of Big Bird peeking in the airplane in-flight asking Willard to "Open the window, Mitt!" He's yellow. He stands out. People will get it, wherever he's placed.

in Iowa. It was hilarious! What better way to marginalize the opponent than with ridicule. Remember the ads the GOP ran against Kerry? The ridicule they heaped on him, I think things like this work. People will tune out most ads, but will remember this one.
