What does it say that despite the 47% comment, and all of Romney's lying, that its a toss up race?

To me it says that:

1. Many Americans, especially Republicans and Independents, believe that much of America are moochers and they like to look down other fellow Americans.

2. Many Americans want to blame their hardships on Obama and have just been waiting for Romney to look like a viable candidate.

3. Americans don't care if a politician lies because they just don't care about ethics and morals that much, especially with the accepted levels of greed and selfishness in society (something I think hasn't been talked about much in mainstream society). America seems to have a corruption epidemic, and our politics is just a reflection of it.

It's hard to have faith in the American voter anymore. They suck up the pablum with the greatest naivete.

As the dreadful, gawdawful dubya years dragged on, and more shit spewed out of that White House, I remember people openly saying "hey, wait a minute! That's not what I voted for!" If I was within earshot and felt like mixing it up a little, I'd usually blurt out - "OH YES YOU DID. You voted for bush/cheney? Okay, FINE. THAT ABSOLUTELY DAMN WELL IS what you voted for!"

for a Republican after what the Bush Administration did to this country. I thought Democrats would have majorities for a minimum of 8 years.

I talk to lots of people that aren't political junkies and they have no idea at all about the tape. They honestly don't know what I'm referring to when I mention the 47% tape or anything contained within.

I do think that a lot of people took the President's abysmal debate performance as an excuse to drop him.

Your third point, like your first point, is a matter of ignorance. They didn't know Romney was lying, they just saw him kicking the President 's ass. I think if they did know, it would matter.

I still think we're going to win but the debate really shrunk the margin of victory. We were looking at a potential landslide, now we're looking at a squeaker.

But all that can change, there is still plenty of time to go back ahead……or fall behind.

...America truly is fucked as a nation. Just think even of California kicking out Gray Davis (because Enron screwed California) and blaming Gray Davis for California's energy crisis, and putting in the meathead Governator. If California can do it, the rest of America is much more likely to do it.

He was lying his balls off but he was hitting moderate points. The uninformed think that's what he really represents. They don't know about the flip flops, they don't know about the far right positions he will push at the behest of his masters. It was a pretty good acting job. For those that do not follow, he came off as the kind of guy you want to vote for while the President looked tired, disinterested, timid and guilty.

The Grey Davis thing was ludicrous and Arnold was no bargain but imagine how much worse off you'd have been if Issa had won. That son of a bitch engineered the recall to begin with.

Bottom line? Yeah, people are dumb, easily swayed, gullible, vacuous and foolish. I don't trust them at all.

...live in the Fox News bubble and truly believe some bullshit.

and if i try to share facts (history, math, etc.) they think im being 'aggressive' and too opinionated

they think I've been 'ruined' (by what, I'm not sure...college, living in a liberal city, my husband, whatever )

it's poisoned our relationships..but not b/c we disagree or argue. more because I have just...lost respect for them. and that makes me feel like a bad daughter

1. Many Americans, especially Republicans and Independents,
believe that much of America are moochers and they like to
look down other fellow Americans.

Where did they get the idea that Americans are moochers?
Just from living and observing? Nay..

It has been taught and reinforced by talk radio and fox news,
financed by big money, criminals and extremist propagandists,
liars and thieves who profit from war, cheat and deceit.

2. Many Americans want to blame their hardships on Obama
and have just been waiting for Romney to look like a viable
candidate.

Such people would never have thought this stuff up for
themselves. They likely wouldn't even know that Obama is
president, much less the source of all their misery.
Nay... It has been taught to them, and reinforced
daily, by talk radio and fox news and friends.

3. Americans don't care if a politician lies because they
just don't care about ethics and morals that much, especially
with the accepted levels of greed and selfishness in society
(something I think hasn't been talked about much in mainstream
society). America seems to have a corruption epidemic, and
our politics is just a reflection of it.

A large number of people have no real ability to think for
themselves. It's not their fault. They started out human,
with great originality & potential -- but were trained
to obey, not to feel, and not to trust their own original
thoughts, or their own perceptions.

And then there is all the religious fear drilled into people's
poor little psyches. Fear of voting for the wrong person
and going to hell. People don't think this stuff up for
themselves.

It amazes me how many people can have proof of Romney and Ryan's blatant lies shoved under their noses, yet still vote for them.

Sadly, I don't think honestly tops the list as a prized value anymore, for too many people.

say, 8 years.

8 years ago the American People (narrowly) re-elected George W. Bush, despite a terrible record, an invasion based on bald-faced lies, and even an absolutely atrocious debate performance or two (far worse than Obama's "off night&quot ... driving many people to the polls were red meat "values voters" issues like fear of Gay Marriage. Oh, and tax cuts.

Now we have a President who has heartily embraced a progressive agenda for this country, who is unapologetic about support for raising the highest marginal tax rate- oh, and a President who, for the first time ever, fully supports full marriage equality for our GLBT citizenry.

There was a time when the tall white guy with good hair would be the favorite just by default. America has come a long way. Obama is winning.
