2016 Postmortem

If I like Yes and you think it's pretentious nonsense, it's an utter waste of time for me to explain why you don't "get" Yes.
I like Yes, and you don't. Simple as that. Listen to what you like, and groove to it if it moves you.
And so it should go with our candidates.

(17,796 posts)I would agree with you, but our choice of candidate does have an impact on everyone no matter what their taste is.

(349 posts)... and I don't necessarily disagree. The point is that people's tastes in a message (and how it is delivered) are generally not subject to change merely based on someone else's opinions.
You might try sampling an album I enjoy -- perhaps with great reluctance, and a small chance you'll change your mind -- but no matter what your reactions, I can't get you to walk out of a record store carrying an entire discography of an artist you don't admire, short of putting a gun to your head (which I wouldn't do anyway).
So yeah, I get that the stakes are a lot more world-shaking than my simple analogy, but the underlying principle is the same. Time is better spent spreading your preferences to those who haven't heard, or are at least open to the message.

(11,804 posts)the whole point to elections is to move the needle to support the candidate you think will do best by this country; it's hard to do that without discussing it. I do agree that HRC and Bernie supporters talk past each other a lot, but that's what happens when people care a great deal about something and can't understand why the other side doesn't agree.

(349 posts)That's an understatement. There's passion, and then there's bloviating. It's like a ham actor who's limited to shouting when asked to show emotion.

(349 posts)Just because I'm not chatty during meetings, doesn't mean I'm not engaged. By all means, flex your 22,000 post muscle if it makes you feel superior. I'm jealous of the free time you apparently have.

I think my brain popped somewhere between "situates Bernie's dominance in masculine subcultures and products" and Kenny G as unpacking cisheteronormativity

(349 posts)IMO "Bernie" is definitely correct on that one, there.... Kenny G or no Kenny G.
