2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHarry Reid Rushed Home to Nevada to Help Rig Caucus Results for Clinton
Harry Reid clearly wants Hillary Clinton to be the next president, began a Politico article published a few days before the Nevada caucuses, citing the reason Mr. Reid did not endorse a presidential candidate is that he wants to help bolster the odds of his chosen successor, former state attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto, winning his Senate seat in November when Mr. Reid is retires. One could also argue Mr. Reid refused to formally endorse a candidate in order to influence the caucuses under the guise of neutrality, which would not have otherwise been afforded to him had he not remained publicly impartial.
A week before the Nevada caucuses, as new polls showed Senator Bernie Sanders support in the state surging, Mr. Reid made a call to the head of Nevadas most powerful unionthe Culinary Workers Union in Las Vegas, which did not plan on engaging in the caucusesand influenced the unions decision to participate. Mr. Reid also made calls to casino executives along the Las Vegas strip to ensure casino workers were given time off to join the caucuses on the strip, which was predicted to be Ms. Clintons stronghold in the state. Mr. Reids gamble paid off, with all six casino caucuses favoring Ms. Clinton over Mr. Sanders by 109 to 52.
So you PRETEND to be neutral, but.... not really.. heh, heh, heh...
Way to cement your reputation for the ages........Harry.

(86,005 posts)...it can't be because you were out-organized and out-voted, you have to resort to this epic pout. It just adds to your delusion that there's something supremely ordained about your candidate's campaign.

(15,682 posts)He gave more people a chance to join the caucus. How is that undemocratic or rigged? Republicans are known for blocking voters. Dems try to get more voters. That's what Harry did.

(7,580 posts)couldn't you come up with anything but just so much nonsense....Democrats should stick together unlike those on DU.
Andy823
(11,495 posts)Democrats should stick together, and real ones do here on DU. Sadly there are some here who are not real Democrats, they only come here to complain, and in some cases to disrupt the boards and divide posters.
For the life of me I can's understand why so many here are going for the "scorched earth" scenario here on DU when it comes to the "other" candidate.

(1,947 posts)I have been a member of this party for a long time, but what does it mean anymore when we take from the same coffers the republicans do? What does it mean when the presumed front runner supported trade deals that are bad for workers? What does it mean when a candidate start negotiating for higher wages nationwide at the point in which things would improve but not get anything more? That is bad judgment, It's not being realistic because if that were the case a realistic negotiator wouldn't lead in with the bottom dollar amount. What does it mean to be a democrat of this standard? I'm sure you all have similar beliefs but why the disconnect? Democrats need to differentiate themselves from republicans, but they rarely do on economic issues. Selling out to the business class and management while already throwing in the towel is a fight I don't think any of us truly want. I do not want to fight to start negotiating at $12 and hour, I consider that fighting from a position of weakness. I do not want to fight in hopes a candidate doesn't return to their original view of TPP after they win. Or keystone. Or private prison lobbies. I did not like being called a tea party member. I am not a person who started a PUMA movement in 2008. I am not a person who has forgot at one time one income was enough to feed your family. If you want to vote for whatever table scraps big business throws us that is your choice, but do not expect me to join ranks of that mission. I will cast votes of approval for democrats in November, but I do not want to start the damn fight with wet powder. Hillary is wet powder. She sets our principles at such a low achievable goal that it is really just lip service. That is the problem.
timmymoff
(1,947 posts)It is actually the Clinton campaign that opposes solidarity. Was it a move towards solidarity when Bill Clinton called a voting block as large as the Sanders supporters "the tea party of the left"? Was it solidarity when Madeline Albright tried to condemn women to hell? I am going to speak for myself and myself only, but if you do not want the support of Bernie Sanders supporters please just say so. I will gladly step away from the process instead of allowing you to continually insult me. I find a candidate suspicious at best that has been on both sides of nearly every issue. I find a candidate suspicious when they berate republicans for "being in the tank" for taking money from large corporations, wall st. , big pharma, private prisons etc . and suddenly they are miraculously changed. I find it suspicious that you can be for NAFTA, TPP, keystone, private prison lobbies but immediately make a switch as needed. You may think I am stupid, which is fine, but to sit here and say Hillary isn't "in the bag" just like republicans for taking the exact same money is well, naive. If you want to only win the game then continue this strategy of insulting a growing voting block, if you want to win the season, well to be honest I think you already lost that ability. I will canvass, call, and donate to Bernie, if he is not nominated, I will only vote. It will be for democrats. More than likely though, only the ones who haven't used surrogates to insult me. Only the ones who haven't spread lies to tarnish both the character of a long time ally, and the supporters of Bernie Sanders. I am just hoping you haven't already earned your loss in the general, if you can even win the democratic nomination. I will fight for Bernie until then. I am sure he will endorse your favorite. We are a rebellious lot though. Good Luck winning new voters with that exceptionally brilliant strategy.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This piece is full of lies and no wonder. The Observer was purchased a couple years ago by Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law. The CEO is Kushner's brother-in-law, Joseph Meyer, and the Editor is Ken Kurson, a Rudy Giuliania associate. It is not the liberal paper it used to be. Just a Donald Trump mouthpiece.
