-SANDERS: CLINTON PROGRESSIVE RHETORIC 'HASTILY ADOPTED'-, The Hill, Feb.22, 2016
Bernie Sanders bashed Hillary Clinton for "hastily adopted campaign rhetoric" that mirrors his own as the two presidential candidates continue to trade barbs over who is more authentic.
"The people of the United States need to know the difference between hastily adopted campaign rhetoric and the real record and the long-held ideas of the candidate," Sanders said Monday at a press conference in Massachusetts.
"What I intend to do over the next number of weeks is kind of contrast my record to Secretary Clinton's. And I have to say that I am delighted that Secretary Clinton, month after month, seems to be adopting more of the positions we have advocated, which is good, and is beginning to use a lot of the language and phraseology weve used."
He went on to joke that he saw a political ad on television that he believed was his own, but "turns out it was Sec. Clinton's picture in the ad."
Sanders also hit Clinton for accepting large donations from Wall Street and her allied super-PAC for spending against him in the primary. "The American people need to ask a very simple question if these contributions from Wall Street and other powerful special interests have no influence over the candidate, why are these special interests making huge campaign contributions? Simple question?" he asked. "These guys are many things. Dummies they are not.

(41,168 posts)*CONSOLIDATING HISPANIC SUPPORT, CLINTON'S CAMPAIGN THROWS PUNCHES AT SANDERS* Dallas Morning News.
Feb. 18, AUSTIN Hillary Clinton nabbed the endorsement from another Hispanic group on Thursday during a conference call that featured plenty of swipes at Vermont Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
THE LATINO VICTORY FUND, the political arm of a group co-founded by Hollywood star EVA LONGORIA that advocates for electing Hispanics to public office, endorsed Clinton. Hillary has fought for Latinos to make sure every person has a vote, said Latino Victory Fund President Cristobal Alex. Hillary is a proven leader who has always, always, always stood with Latinos.
>During the conference call, Clintons supporters swung punches at Sanders for voting for an amendment that supported a border vigilante group and a bill the Clinton campaign said would have allowed immigrants in the country illegally to be indefinitely detained. Sen. Sanders consistently wasnt there when we needed him the most, said Housing and Urban Development Secretary JULIAN CASTRO, whos rumored to be on Clintons short list for a running mate. If the past is any indication of what the future holds, then Sen. Sanders will continue to let us down.
Rep. LUIS GUTIERREZ, D-Illinois, accused Sanders of standing with the anti-immigration wing of the Republican party. Many of us have long memories that can help us recognize who we can count on and who let us down when we needed them, Gutierrez said. ~ Clinton is in a close caucus race against Sanders in Nevada, where the state population is 27 percent Hispanic. According to the few polls taken in the Lone Star State, shes leading by double digits in Texas where she already has the support of about half the states superdelegates. Her roots to Texas this election go deep. (cont.)

- Julian Castro, HUD Sec. and fmr. Mayor of San Antonio, Texas at Clinton Campaign Office in Iowa, Jan. 24, 16.-
Last fall Castro claimed that Bernie had not come to Texas, when in fact the Senator held two large campaign events in Houston and Dallas in the summer. Castro walked back the untrue comments later, after they cycled through the media.
- Rep. Luiz Gutierrez (D-IL), Clinton Supporter-
Illinois Congressman Gutierrez in a TV interview didn't remember Bernie at first, although both have served in Congress for many years. Gutierrez made negative comments about Sanders relationships with immigrants as well. This even as Bernie has worked with colleagues like Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and many others for rights for all Americans including immigrants in his 40 year career.
Bernie is also the son of a Polish immigrant father who came to America at age 17 and whose entire family perished in the Holocaust.
*The Hill, June 11, 2015, "House Dem. 'I'm Not Sure Bernie Sanders Likes Immigrants'.
Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL.) says he doesnt know whether Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) likes immigrants because he doesnt hear him advocating on their behalf. In an interview that will air Tuesday with Larry King on ORA TVs PolitiKING, Gutiérrez, who is backing Hillary Clinton for president, first failed to remember Sanderss name before blasting him for not doing enough to push immigration reform.
*Weve got the socialist, uh I cant remember his name. Bernie Sanders, Gutierrez said. I dont know if he likes immigrants because he doesnt seem to talk about immigrants. But sooner or later, hell tell us. I hope he likes immigrants. I havent heard him say anything. Hes been kind of quiet and silent".

___________
Since April 30, 2015 when Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont announced his 2016 Democratic presidential candidacy, there have been a number of false statements, negative remarks and smears against his record from public officeholders, Clinton surrogates and endorsers, members of the media activists and the general public. Do we care? Yes, I do even realizing this is supposed to be standard for campaign politics. Yet Bernie has emphasized and followed his preference for focusing on real issues over personal matters throughout his career.
*Top 'Hits': NPR radio host Diane Rehm told Sanders that he was a dual citizen of the US and Israel which is absurd and false; Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said Bernie was a socialist but couldn't explain why; Fmr. Sen. Barney Frank (D-MA), employed by the Board of Directors of Signature Bank of NY said Sanders plans to alter banking and financial sector policies were unnecessary;
Rep. Gutierrez of IL claimed he didn't know Bernie, and that he doesn't like immigrants; Rep. John Lewis said he never saw Bernie during early 1960s Civil Rights events despite his record but he knew the Clintons, and a statement by Lewis was issued several days later. Lastly, feminist Gloria Steinem appeared on Bill Maher's show last week and remarked that (young) women now want to be 'where the boys are, with Bernie', a bomb she amended a few days later.
----
In spite of these efforts and the media's lack of coverage until recently, Bernie has risen far beyond what anyone ever expected. He's built a stellar campaign, attracted thousands of enthusiastic supporters across the US, followers abroad, gained endorsements from public officials, organizations and noted public figures and raised impressive campaign donations from individuals.
He's achieved this from the strength, experience and skills he possesses as a political leader, the authentic, honest and determined nature of his character, and his powerful message and platform calling for us to unite and rebuild America into a far better advanced nation through a political movement. It's desperately needed and I believe we'll do it.
This campaign is in forward motion like a freight train, so work hard, and give it all in the weeks and months ahead. It's an exciting time to be a part of this historic progressive movement by the people and part of the Campaign for a Better Future. ~ Postscript, not only is Bernie Good Enough, but an exceptional American and a rare candidate that many of us never thought we'd see. Feel the Bern!

(41,168 posts)Feb.18, NATIONAL QUINIPPIAC POLL: *SANDERS BEATS TRUMP* VERMONT FIREBRAND BEATS ALL POTENTIAL GOP RIVALS
February 18, 2016 *AMERICAN VOTERS FEEL THE BERN* In November Matchups, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Spoiler Alert - Bloomberg Hurts Sanders More
>American voters back Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont over Republican candidates by margins of 4 to 10 percentage points in head to head presidential matchups, according to a Quinnipiac University National poll released today. The closest Republican contender is Ohio Gov. John Kasich who trails Sanders 45 - 41 percent.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton trails or ties leading Republicans in the November face-off, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds. If former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg jumps into the race as a third party candidate against Sanders and Donald Trump or Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Bloomberg would hurt Sanders more than either Republican.
>Sanders has the highest favorability rating of any candidate and the highest scores for honesty and integrity, for caring about voters' needs and problems and for sharing voters' values. He ties Clinton and Trump on having strong leadership qualities and falls behind Clinton and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on having the right kind of experience to be president.
>"It's certainly Sen. Bernie Sanders' moment. The Vermont firebrand leads all potential GOP rivals in raw numbers and raw emotion with the best scores for favorability and several key character traits," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. "The candidate running best against Sanders is Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and he's in fourth place with 6 percent in the Republican presidential pack, unlikely to make it to the main event. "Sanders has a lackluster 51 percent favorability rating, but that's better than all the rest. MOST OF THE TOP CANDIDATES HAVE NEGATIVE SCORES." ~DATA:http://www.democraticunderground.com/1280121036

(41,168 posts)remain a well treated servant to big money sectors that are owed. Eight years of Bush devastation, eight more years of Obama having to restabilize the economy after the worst economic crisis in the US in 75 years, some positives like the ACA but much obstruction.
This nation can't take another four or eight years of stagnation, not helping people and not rebuilding THIS COUNTRY, yet moving forward with disastrous policies like the TPP that will end what's left of America's middle class.
If I see on this board one more reference to the GOP Congress as a convenient excuse, 'how are you going to get that done' I might implode. There wouldn't be a GOP controlled Congress and 31 Red State Governors and Legislatures if the Dem. Party and the DNC were doing their job, in all 50 states. Regarding this presidential election no way will I settle for moderation and incrementalism.

(41,168 posts)Yes we must try, keep moving or stagnation and further, rapid decline is quaranteed.
Yesterday I was surprised to hear several progressive voices on the left (not here) making statements how the two groups have to start 'coming together' now, as if the Nevada results in the 3rd contest of many more to come were defining.
Not buying it, millions are invested in change for the better now, too much is at stake, the political revolution has begun and it's time take the gloves off and press onward!

(41,168 posts)to this sudden 'change' firmly and directly, and asked what exactly was being stated. The reply was fuzzy and unclear which was even more irritating. Later, there was a panel q. whether the momentum has changed now, AND indisputable talk about 'turning over delegates' if you can believe that. WTH? The Dem. campaign is done now? Not by a long shot!
There's a movement now, a force field of energy among youth & all groups that isn't going anywhere but Forward!
