God I love that woman!
"The media is so commercial, it's so driven by corporate interests," Goodman explained to Stelter during an interview on CNN's Reliable Sources. "And it's so important though that people recognize that there is a whole independent media world out there."
"We do not emphasize the polls," she pointed out. "I would love the media, there to be a month without polls. What is the value of these polls? If I am making a decision about a candidate, I want to weigh their record."

Like I posted downstream.... Amy reminds me of the news when I was a kid in the 60's (except of course they were all male journalists)

(41,171 posts)Amy is one the top investigative journalists. When possible I follow Democracy Now!, an exceptional news venue.
I miss Bill Moyers on PBS too, what a legend who still writes and has a website.
She does make it hard to live in a fact-free fantasy world, when she keeps pushing truth at you.
On her show, she got everything right about Iraq and the war BEFORE we invaded. Every lie the Bush administration told about it, she had the experts at the center on her show the next day to dispel their myths.
Yes, people who want to make up their own reality and confuse others with propaganda, I can see how they don't like her and criticize her hair style, etc. What depth you show!

The fact that you posted without embarrassment (God bless ya for doing so. After all, it's allegedly still a free country) speaks volumes.

Democracy Now is s very professionally run news program, and she tries to be less opinionated on that show to report the news that no one else in the corporate media does.

I adore Amy Goodman. She focuses on the story and not on her makeup.

(9,350 posts)Amy Goodman is just as effective, if not better, at delivering her viewpoint on TV as the people you listed. What are you looking for/at in terms of delivering one's viewpoint? How do you see Goodman as looking like a fish out of water?

(5,275 posts)Cenk, Katrina, Ezra...yes...but most talk show hosts and talking heads are just that...talking...
Amy is about nothing but the deep facts...and people always find some reason to diminish those facts by some other criteria...
her supposed 'lack of effectiveness' is due to lack of exposure...so some people only get the 'news' they can digest without too much thought...definitely not her game...
she has the enduring satisfaction of knowing she told us all...and because we didn't care for the messenger many of us didn't see what was going on...nor, apparently, did we really want to see...

(4,113 posts)Goodman may not be some pretty little bimbo in a short, low-cut dress like you see on the other MSM all of the time, but she has more journalistic integrity than the so-called reporters in the said networks COMBINED.
That's the problem I have with the major "news" networks - everything is sex and superficial appearances with no investigative journalistic substance. That's why stories on the Kardashians and other celebrity freak shows dominate and lead their newscasts.

(10,303 posts)Amy Goodman....
And let's compare her to some journalists and news readers that I admire. Sorry, it's heavily BBC because that's what I grew up with and what I watch and listen to even now here in NC.
Lyse Doucet... (Chief International Correspondent, BBC)
Razia Iqbal.... (BBC World Service Radio - Newshour)
Nuala McGovern... (Outside Source - BBC World News (TV & Radio))
Katty Kay (BBC World News America) ... sonmeone
John Simpson, BBC Editor... sorry it's an old photo from 2001...
No joke, but I assure you it's him. A more recent picture...
Probably my favourite news presenter: Jeremy Paxman... here is why:
A more recent picture...
A lady I saw a lot in the 1980's reading the news... Moira Stewart.
And a more recent picture...
If I were to be a judge on looks alone I'd say she looks better now than in the 1980's.
Fortunately Americans were not subject to the output of local UK TV. For example, here is someone on BBC Nationwide - a 1970's early evening news program - from their Leeds studio.
Sorry - I came across that picture and couldn't resist. Another one from the archives - this time Southern Television's Sarah Kennedy reading the news... she was more a TV presenter than a journalist but her first on-screen job was at Southern.
A more recent picture... Sarah showing off her medal when she was awarded the MBE by Lizzie Windsor (ny nickname for Queen Elizabeth).
Though Sarah Kennedy is more of a presenter than a journalist but my point in posting all these pics is simple...
you can't judge a person based on image alone. The news I grew up with (BBC, ITV (Southern & London)) the news readers and journalists were never known for being fashion icons or in some cases being particularly easy on the eye. I haven't included any pictures of current people on CNN, Fake News Channel or MSNBC as most people here can readily turn on their TV and see who's on now.
As for Amy Goodman... though I don't watch her show, I respect what she does - and her work is of BBC quality in my opinion.

(3,089 posts)it is clear to me that we should, in addition to ignoring polls, just stop talking to each other and just listen to what our favorite candidate has to say, use sound judgement and vote based on that. Otherwise, talking at, to, or past each other is just further dividing us so that at least one segment of the party will be angry enough to stay home and let the GOP win. I don't want that to happen, so I'm done commenting.

(9,350 posts)The news shows and news networks spend too much time discussing polls. I think CBS Morning News and CBS Evening News have mentioned polls everyday. It would be much better for them to discuss the positions of the politicians and their business and political records. In addition, there should be an effort to give all the people running for office equal time to discuss their political ideas.
