2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSnowden and the NSA Is not even an issue in this campaign
For all the posts about this on DU for some years this isn't even an issue in the campaign on either side.
With rand paul out and snowden's hope for pardon from a president President Paul gone he is now talking about how he would be ok with a trial.
It's good the dem candidates see there are much more important issues.

(3,343 posts)Would you possibly think he'd get a fair trial?
That's weird.

(15,429 posts)Then he'd fairly spend the most of the rest of his life behind bars precisely like he deserves.

(3,343 posts)There's no long history of fair trials in America, especially for high profile targets.
Do you anything about the farce that is the KSM trial?
OR any of the dozens of times the prosecution has lied, or colluded with judges and cops to get a conviction? The US is seen as having a very poor track record at producing legitimate convictions outside of the US.
He'll never get a fair trial..

(15,429 posts)The man has already confessed his crimes. A jury would take maybe five minutes to convict his criminal ass based upon his media statements alone, and only then because thy would feel obligated to at lest ask if anybody has even a shadw of a doubt as to his guilt.
His guilt is undeniable.

(3,343 posts)Not what a fair trial is.
And the fact that you think it is explains a lot.

(15,429 posts)If a criminal like Snowden is so STUPID as to go on television to tell the world about the crimes they committed, that video WILL BE INTRODUCED AGAINST THEM.
It's a slam dunk. He'll do 20 years minimum, and may spend the rest of his life behind bars.
And he deserves every second of prison time for the rest of his life.

(6,409 posts)OK, maybe not Snowden in particular, but the issue of whether or not we will encourage whistle blowers.

(2,125 posts)Bernie said something along the lines of, "he broke the law but...." I don't think he's calling for his head on a spike like HRC and the clown car candidates.
Hopefully Pres Sanders will do something about this.

(80,708 posts)Last time I checked, lying in court is against the law. Just because it would be inconvenient to go back and let out the millions of drug users in prison who were prosecuted using "parallel construction", doesnt mean that particular snowden revelation should continue to be swept under the rug.
