2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe worst thing the HRC campaign has done...
...has been to try to create a division between "social justice" advocates and "economic justice" advocates.
This has done damage to the progressive side of American politics that there was no possible justification for.
The prohibitive majority of people who are involved in either form of justice struggle support the other with equal passion.
Many, if not in fact virtually all of us, passionately support both sets of causes.
They are distinct, yet related struggles and neither can be truly won without the other being won as well.
HRC needs to apologize for ever implying that the justice movements have any reason to be at odds with each other, or that any significant number of people involved in one of those movements didn't care about the other.
The wounds caused by hate and social exclusion are unimaginably deep and must be healed. So must the wounds(different wounds, of different depth, yet still deep and inflamed) caused by greed and economic exclusion. So must the wounds inflicted by both forms of injustice combined.
Some have been hurt far more deeply than others. But most have been wounded in some way.
And the healing of one wound requires the healing of all.
Because while either wound is left unhealed, it will infect the other and keep it unhealed as well.
We ALL should be fighting for justice for all, and no one should ever seek to divide the justice movements against each other for short-term personal gain.
