(6,498 posts)I'm pretty sure that the Iowa Democratic Party wouldn't have put his name on the wall in my precinct unless he was running as a Democrat.
That's generally how things work, here.

(50,319 posts)If he'd run as an Independent, that's what would have happened. Hillary wouldn't have had a chance. As to his current party status, I'd say he's more of what a Democrat should be than has been seen in decades. He reminds me of FDR. I wish other people who have been calling themselves Democrats for years would follow suit.

(22,308 posts)The problem with the question I ask is definitional. A tree falling creates vibrations which are interpreted as sound within someone's (or something's) ear. We can't answer that question without an exact definition of what sound is.
We also can't answer your question without an exact definition of what a Democrat is.
I care nothing for party loyalty. In My Opinion, the party exists to promote progressive policies. Progressive policies do not exist to perpetuate the existence of the party.
Sen. Sanders is a someone who is promoting progressive policies and values. I don't care if he fits into some limited definition of what a Democrat is or not. The two party system we work within requires any serious candidate utilize one of those two parties to become President. I'm fine with that. It looks like Sen. Sanders is simply being pragmatic and working to accomplish his goal.
If he wasn't pragmatic, he would be running as an Independent.

(814 posts)there needs to be a both option. he is a democrat because he's been independent.
i expect the "dem" leadership to be establishment corporate stooges. but the rank and file should be ashamed of themselves. if they were more INDEPENDENT they would be sanders allies.
the true democrat is bernie sanders, because he's independent.
