PPP Michigan -- blowout in the works: Obama 54, Rmoney 38.

from PPP..

Michigan is looking more and more like it won't be in the swing state column this fall. PPP's newest poll there finds Barack Obama leading the entire Republican field by double digits.

The biggest surprise in the numbers might be how badly Obama is beating Mitt Romney- he leads him by 16 points at 54-38. That's a major departure from PPP's previous 3 Michigan President polls, which found Obama ahead by only 4-7 points. Romney's seen a major decline in his personal favorability in the state over the last 6 months from 39/43 to now 29/58. His numbers have dropped across the board but the most striking shift is with independents. He's gone from a +14 spread with them at 48/34 to a -20 one at 32/52.

=============

I know there is a long way to go but these polls are all moving in the President's direction. Its looking good.. almost too good... its makes me a bit nervous.

I think with it being one of the Romney "home states" it is even more considered to be a swing state this election.

If Santorum gets the nod, I would only go back to his last Senatorial election vote to rack that back up to a solid Blue.

Yes, Obama won both states by huge margins in 2008, but then his margin of victory in general was pretty solid.

it at face value just because he lost the last time. Nixon lost California when running for governor and won it when he ran for President in 1968 (and 1972). PA is a culturally conservative state in many ways with a lot of older people set in their ways. While I would say that Obama is favored, if Santorum is the nominee, he shouldn't take it for granted.

Only two Dems hold statewide office in MI right now. Levin & Stabenow. Rethug majority in state House & Senate~~it's really bad! I'm hoping this will change come November & working to make it so.

...even though it does trend Democratic.

Obama won Michigan by 16 points in '08 - so, exactly his margin here in this poll.

However, Kerry only carried the state by three points in '04 and Gore carried it by about five in '00.

So, it's swing solely, at least prior to Obama, it was a close state.

That will haunt him all the way to election day, and not just in Michigan, if he wins the GOP nomination.

It couldn't happen to a most deserving bunch. Looks like all the mud they've thrown at Obama is now bouncing back at them. They try to put on a happy face, but it's obvious they are in panic mode. Romney and Santorum will be battling over Michigan, but Obama has Michigan in the bag!

And it might well work in a number of states that have significant ties to the American automobile industry. The President did a fine job there, but he's going to need to hold on in a few more regions that are not a significant part of that business.

I do share your feeling of 'nervous', we have no idea how well the Rethugs are going to figure out how to unite once they have one sole nominee from Tampa. I can only hope that charges of theft ensue, at the rate things are going, Santorum will cruise into that convention with a first ballot victory.

The GOP believes in the unregulated free market, any other city in the same situation would have gotten the same answer from the GOP, let them go bankrupt. Trump makes his money from his bankruptcies, and brags about stiffing his vendors. New York City was in financial problems a few years ago and the GOP also said let them go bankrupt.

They approve of the bail out.

They don't think CE add is controversial, etc.

Romney is just making a fool out of himself.

His only chance of winning a GE was getting MI to change somehow.

Now he can't even win the MI primary.
