Related: About this forumeffect of super delegates on voter turnout
Here's an article on yahoo about Hillary Clinton's huge super delegate lead over Bernie Sanders despite his popularity among voters: http://news.yahoo.com/despite-nh-loss-dem-insiders-boost-clintons-delegate-180158606--election.html#
Many people who have read the article are making comments like Why vote at all when it doesn't count? A low voter turn out will result in a Republican president and loss of seats in Congress! Republicans in the comments section are trying to entice frustrated Democrats and Independents by claiming their voting process doesn't work that way. Voter turn out is important in every election year, but even more so this year because of health care and the Supreme Court. The next permanent Supreme Court justice will affect this country for many years to come and thinking of the possible return of preexisting conditions and lifetime limits if Republicans win is terrifying! I'm furious over this super delegate situation. I've wanted Bernie Sanders to run for president for years and am 100% on his side. I understand that people want to take a stand against the way the election process works, but I'm not going to refuse to vote if Hillary wins because there's just too much at stake this year.

(14,255 posts)IMO long-time Dems will still vote, but those newly energized and introduced to politics will just shrug and stay home.
That will be on DNC heads. Totally.

(17,064 posts)Though it's likely even some long time Democrats are so disgusted they may not vote for Hillary. The party establishment is not only sacrificing it's future by blowing off newly energized Millenials, but risking a split with the left wing of the party who have been thrown under the bus for 25 years and are fed up. DNC has a big problem on their hands.

(79 posts)No, it will be on the heads of pouting immature people who shrug and stay home. I don't know how old you are, but I have lived with a conservative supreme court for over 40 years. That court has reversed too many gains that minorities have made. Look at what happened as soon as they disallowed preclearance on voting rights act. No, you people want to threaten the Democratic party. If you wanted to change the super delegates provision, you should have done it in 2014 after the election. You people want to change rules in midstream.

(14,255 posts)It is not a matter of changing the super delegates provision, it is a matter of telling people that their votes count, this is a democracy - and then telling them their votes did not count because the DNC did not like the result of the votes.
Also - I have no illusion that Hillary would appoint anyone even close to liberal to the Supreme Court.
