2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHey Spanish speakers...
My experience with Spanish was in High School and College, which is very long ago. So I may be very wrong on this.
Isn't "basta" as an imperative 2nd person familiar (tu)? Isn't it "baste" as a imperative 2nd person formal (usted)?

(23,554 posts)The difference is it the way you say "enough" to a friend, or the way you say "enough" to someone you don't really know.
Or at least that's my only-really-used-in-school-a-long-time-ago understanding.
(I'm guessing I was quite bad at it since Spanish speakers always switched to English to talk to me)

(5,208 posts)We didnt know that blurting out one word that we are pretty sure someone on her campaign suggested she say instantly connected you with U.S. Latinos. If there is any awkward moment for Clinton to show her truly Hispandering ways, this is it. Who says ¡Basta! in any expressions these days? Maybe our older Spanish-speaking relatives, but most definitely not us. -

(5,256 posts). . . you're right, since "bastar" is a verb meaning "to be sufficient." But I have never heard anyone say anything but "¡Basta!" in that form to signify "Enough!" or "That's enough," regardless of whom they were addressing.

(26,549 posts)As in, always basta, and never basten, etc?

(154,021 posts)It is a simple expression.
Basta is a command. Ya Basta is a tad more emphatic.

(39,313 posts)I thought she pulled it off pretty well. Something about at least trying. Bernie might want to learn a word or two in Espanol to show awareness. Demographics mi gente.
