BIG! Jim Clyburn (SC) to Endorse Hillary Clinton Tomorrow!

Liz Kreutz ?@ABCLiz 2h2 hours ago
Per camp, @Clyburn will officially announce his endorsement of Clinton at a press conf tomorrow morning in Columbia

James Clyburn, Leading Black Politician in South Carolina, Will Endorse Hillary Clinton

Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the highest-ranking African-American in Congress, will endorse Hillary Clinton for president Friday in the Palmetto State, the Clinton campaign confirmed.

The endorsement from Clyburn comes as Clinton battles with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for support among minority voters before the Nevada Democratic caucuses Saturday and South Carolina's presidential primary Feb. 27.

Clyburn, the House assistant Democratic leader who’s among the most influential Democrats in his state, remained neutral in the 2008 presidential primary, and was expected to do the same this year until close friend and family urged him to make an endorsement.

He is expected to endorse Clinton at 11 a.m. Friday at Allen University in Columbia. Clinton will not be in attendance at the event.

Clyburn on 2008: Bill Clinton Told Me, "If You Bastards Want A Fight, You Damn Well Will Get One"

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), the most powerful African-American in Congress, recalls a 2am phone call he received from Bill Clinton after Barack Obama defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2008 South Carolina primary.

Clyburn stayed neutral in the primary, however Bill Clinton didn't think so.

"If you bastards want a fight, you damn well will get one," Clinton said according to Clyburn.

"He was very upset," Clyburn recalled. "His wife had just suffered a major defeat in the South Carolina primary, and I had not been involved in it, but Bill Clinton thought otherwise."

"We met by accident several weeks later… we've seen each other several times since. In fact, I had a lovely breakfast with Hillary two to three years after that. I think everything's okay," Clyburn told ABC News' Jeff Zeleny in an interview aired on Yahoo!

...blacks have been on the outside of the political system for decades. Political figures like Jim Clyburn fought long and hard, against institutionalized racism and social resistance for a seat at the political table.
