voter id requirements may add more delay to registering to vote than residency requirements. Kip Humphrey Feb 2016 #4

The residence requirement is 28 days (and has been for a while). At least the Republican-controlled legislature has left same-day registration alone for now.

grad school in the fall. He's applied to four schools, four different states, but since he should be moved by the middle of August, he should have sufficient time to register no matter where he winds up.

I can recall when at least some states had a year residency requirement. I also recall when there was almost no absentee balloting possible. I worked at National Airport a long time ago, and election day always had a very weird pattern of travel, as people either delayed trips to vote, or returned home to vote.

Every state should have early voting.
