Somebody remembered that there are a few AA in Vermont...

And decided to speak with some of the regarding Sen. Sanders.

Interesting - not surprising - interesting article at the Daily Beast this morning.

"He just always kept coming back to income inequality as a response, as if talking about income inequality would somehow make issues of racism go away.”

racism is a PERSONAL issue within every individual...

Berie is supposed (or ANYONE is supposed) to have a plan to stop racism?

interesting that none of these posts/articles, etc. have any suggestions concerning 'curing' racism...

Racism is not. Without an imbalance in the power of the 2 sides in a dispute that situation is not racism.

Not liking someone for the color of their skin is deplorable but if it isn't backed up by an unbalanced system that prevents for example access to capital or equitable treatment by the Justice system it is not Racism - It's one guy being an asshole to another guy.

So the statement that "racism is a PERSONAL issue within every individual" is wrong every time you say it.

Obviously there are many ways to mitigate the structural differences in the way POC are treated. Legislative and regulatory avenues that could be discussed and debated here. If anyone cared to.

2. Burlington black leader, Patrick Brown: We are all so proud of Sanders.

From the OP link:

Which is not to say that Sanders does not have his fans among the African-American community in Vermont. Patrick Brown, the executive director of the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center, said that Sanders has been a regular at their annual Diversity Conference, once welcoming Anita Hill on stage and once being presented an award by Al Sharpton there.

“I am surprised he has not tapped into me as an African-American person to speak about his record here,” Brown said. “This is an area he could capitalize more on. We are all so proud of him.”

Shela Linton, an African-American supporter of Sanders from Brattleboro, said that the senator deserves credit for his outreach to the black community, especially considering that they are just under two percent of the state’s population. And others say that if Sanders was quiet on the issues before, he is making up for it now with his frequent mentions of the unequal justice system at his rallies.

Patrick Brown:

Brown is executive director of the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center, a shoestring operation that has nonetheless brought some big names to Burlington for Martin Luther King Jr. Day events and for an annual diversity conference each March.

Desmond Tutu has been here. So has Anita Hill — twice. Brown has brought Angela Davis and Dick Gregory, and now Sharpton.

6. Badly written article.

It never even says how many African-Americans there are in Vermont. And, more importantly, it doesn't give us any background on the handful of people criticizing Sanders. They may give themselves grand titles ("Executive Director" of this or that), but really who are they? Whom do they represent? The article doesn't say -- probably because the writer never investigated. Second-rate journalism.

7. If you think about racism and income inequality, Bernie makes a very good point.

Who are the primary victims of racial discrimination? Poor black people who can't get ahead because they're stuck in very low paying jobs with no hope of anything better on the horizon. In any case, racism cannot be cured by any politician. It's hatred in a person's heart and no amount of policies or legislation by Bernie or Hillary or anyone else is going to change it. I doubt anyone has realized the errors of their thinking because of anything the government has or has not enacted.
