2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWent to a Bernie Meeting in a Swing State.
There were Muslims, and Blacks, and Hispanics, Caucasians, and Vets, and Old People (GASP), and middle aged people and young people. It was hard to get a parking space and the place was packed.
Amazing isn't it.

(35,015 posts)I'm Texas, and all demographics are very well represented at Bernie QH here. Texas is a lost cause probably but that doesn't mean we're not working hard!

(24,411 posts)In my state of Iowa, Bernie started out at 4 percent. Clinton had 65. The media wasn't covering Bernie's events, and we were constantly told that Clinton would trounce Bernie in the Iowa caucuses.
She got all media endorsements in our state as well a the political endorsements. Slowly and steadily we gained.
All of the work pays off. The phone calling, canvassing, even commenting on local, online news stories.
We had no states that voted before us. No momentum. You can do this. No reason Bernie can't win Texas or any other state. Knock on doors and make those calls. Those things really work.

(35,015 posts)It can be discouraging here sometimes but I've had some amazing calls phone banking and positive interactions block walking yesterday. The young people working for the campaign are amazing, they are working hard and really pouring their heart and soul into it. I wish I didn't have to work everyday so I could help more.
So you're right - anything is possible, even here in Texas.

(6,994 posts)Im going to assume Bernie Sanders won the Iowa caucus outright...They audited 14 precincts out of 1680 and Bernie Sanders gained so why did they stop.(By order of DWS?) of course.

(12,685 posts)Bernie won. Young voters aren't stupid.

(24,411 posts)You are right. There were 14 precincts out of 1680 that were examined. These were precincts where the people who were present at the caucuses (Precinct Chairs, precinct captains for Sanders) noticed that there were reporting errors on the official delegate count that the Iowa Democratic Party had on their website.
For example, there was a professor from one of the precincts at Grinnell College, who noticed that the official Iowa Democrat Party delegate-count document had their precinct at Clinton 5; Sanders 4. This guy knew that it really was Sanders 5; Clinton 4.
This happened several times, and these "reporting errors" were corrected. The problem is--that these errors were found very quickly by vigilant, very politically savvy people. They knew to go to the Iowa Democratic Party website, locate the document that contained all 1680 precinct counts--and compare with what they knew had happened in their precincts.
The problem is---The Iowa Democratic Party removed that official document that showed all of the counts in 1680 precincts. It was up on the front page of their website. Easily accessible. The Sunday after the caucuses, it was taken down.
In effect, there is NO WAY for Iowans who want to check the official Iowa Democratic Party report--which determined the final outcome--with what they know to be true in their own precincts.
Nice, huh? Why isn't this a national story?
Those errors that were found--Are we really supposed to believe that those are the only errors in the official reporting? The errors were not discovered by a thorough analysis. They were discovered by people who were double checking. Not everyone double checked. In fact, the official Iowa Democrat Party Caucus results were only visible on their website for less than a week.
You mentioned DWS. She had nothing to do with this. However, there is a "DWS" in our state. Dr. Andy McGuire. McGuire is the chair of the Iowa Democratic Party. When those errors (which have been corrected) were initially discovered, McGuire said absolutely NO, to any examination of the Iowa Caucus Results. She insisted that the result was final. End of story. Then, the Des Moines Register Editorial Board wrote their scathing op-ed, "Something smells in the Iowa Democratic Caucuses." McGuire was forced to capitulate and change those errors. Then, the document was removed from their website!!!
If you recall--McGuire's license plate reads, "HRC2016". She held fundraisers for HRC in her Des Moines home. She served as co-chair for HRC's 2008 Iowa campaign and she is a member of a group of influential Iowans women who want Hillary elected as the next President.
She's in charge.
It's a sham, isn't it?

.making a huge mistake by alienating and disrespecting such a huge section of new and old Democrats as he did today.
He's lived way too long surrounded by the mega-rich power elite. He's lost his touch.

(14,691 posts)voting for him -twice- while he and the DLC neoliberaled the Democratic Party almost to death. I'm glad he's lost his touch.

(9,865 posts)But Slick Willy's political chops were always his talent. It's gone.
We're better off that way, but still, I'm surprised.
Guess it was always so phony that by now he can only "perform" being Bill Clinton.
Just like her. Always an empty performance.

(13,141 posts)In all seriousness: there is a much higher awareness of the world, each other, politics, truth versus lies, than 30 years ago, mostly bc the Internet snd other technology.
So we have changed, but apparently he has not. Same tricks don't work now.

.but I started to come out of it pretty quickly once I saw many of his policies in action back in the 90's. What he was doing to the values of the democratic party was truly shocking.
This reminds me of Lou Reed's three pieces of advice, given before he died.
1. Don't live in fear of anybody.
2. Have a good Bull Shit detector.
3. Be tender.

(13,141 posts)I confess was not paying much attenton to politicians back then.
My first impression of both Clintons, not from media but my own, was the beeping of my bullshit detector. Then I mostly tuned out. Was raising kids.& the drama of those years was a peripheral curiosity.
Bill did deeply disappoint me e when he didn't come clean on his affair with Monica -- lying as if we were stupid, and the cruelty of how he used her.
But he permanently lost me at the very end.
Here's how much attention I was paying:
I truly thought he would give presidential pardons to the legions of nonviolentincarcerated black men. I REALLY believed this!! It still breaks my heart.
