Suggestion: Issue slates, not just candidate slates, should be allowed in Dem primaries.

That is, if there are people who don't have particular candidates they support, but have causes they want the party to support, it should be possible for them to organize campaigns to elect delegates pledged to raise those issues during the primary season, the platform process, and at the convention.

These could include:

A Peace Slate(if there is a war those Dems want to avoid or get stopped)

An Anti-Bigotry Slate(dealing with issues related to grassroots and institutional opprression)

A Labor/Workers' Slate

An Anti-Poverty/Anti-Austerity Slate.

A Green Slate.

A Combined Progressive Slate(which might include all of the above).

This would make it much easier for people who are more concerned with issues than personalities to make themselves heard.

And it would do a lot to make this into the party it should be...a party where policy is made from below, not above.

which is organized by the DNC and attended by delegates. they caucus and hammer which resolutions they want to have included in the platform. I don't recall if the voting process is by consensus or majority vote.

When I had cable back in 2004 I watched the proceedings, (not the back room caucusing) on C-Span.

I was spitting mad watching the machinations .

One of the issues that a delegate from San Francisco was calling for, was a complete pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan as well as a whole list of others resolutions presented by the Northern California ACLU chapter president who vigorously attempted to get heard (including impeachment of Bush and Cheney) and have a vote on but the organizers refused to allow it to be brought to a vote even though the committee was unanimous.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it is no longer held, considering who is now chair of the DNC.

On Edit for more clarity, this is not to be confused with the DNC Convention which is held following the primaries. The one in 2004 was held in Hollywood Florida if memory serves.
