Related: About this forumThe Stupidest Meme
I have heard this idiotic meme over and over again from those who don't support Bernie. It's fine to not support him, support who you want but stop with this, it just makes you sound ignorant. It's "well you know Bernie is not a real Democrat, he's an independent, who only joined the Democrats to run." Or any variation of this ridiculous theme. Did you ever think that he is chose to be an independent because he, an old school FDR Democrat, felt that the party left him? Just as so many on the left and right call themselves independents now because neither of the Establishment parties represent them anymore. Should all those millions who feel left out of the political process just be shunted aside because of the label they choose to put on their voter registration? How small minded is that? Bernie is a Democrat, who chose to put the D back in his title because our repressive 2-party system does not allow independents to run successful campaigns. You can nitpick that he wasn't officially a Democrat by label but everything he is and everything he stands for is what the Democratic party is supposed to stand for. He has been a stalwart supporter of the Democrats for years while those who called themselves by the sacred party "D" left it to twist in the wind (hello Joe Leiberman). If you feel that he isn't a Democrat, please name a policy that he espouses that does not line up with traditional Democratic values. And I will go ahead and concede his gun vote gives me pause so you don't need to bring that up. Give me something else. I will put here the most important list to Bernie, FDR's Second Bill of Rights:
The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
The right of every family to a decent home;
The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
The right to a good education.
This is his plank and platform. This is what we as decent human beings should stand for no matter what label is put by their name. It is dignity for people and planet and I don't care what what it's called, action speaks louder than words.

(172 posts)The real democrat argument is such weak sauce. Especially compared to the whose more liberal argument, which I'm still amazed is happening.
