Remembering Hillary's racist joke about Indian Americans

Last edited Mon Feb 15, 2016, 02:48 PM - Edit history (1)

It's supposed to be OK though because she apologized:

2004
Clinton Apologizes for Gandhi Remark
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has apologized for joking that Mahatma Gandhi used to run a gas station here, saying it was ''a lame attempt at humor.''

I don't think Bernie Sanders would ever crack a joke like this for cheap laughs. He doesn't have a history of racially divisive politics like Hillary Clinton does.

Frankly this is something I would expect to hear from Donald Trump.

Edit: To be clear, I am NOT calling Hillary racist. Only this joke was racist. I put it in the same category like if she joked about Jewish people being bad tippers

Because that would imply that there was some humor involved. I may be totally missing the point but it was not funny, it was just an extremely stupid remark,

She's right about one thing it was lame.

And embarrassing.

Let's stop with the rage manufacturing.

Hilary and Bill Clinton are Indophiles, travel to India often and have done wonders to Indo-US relations improvement. They were the first ones to see India in its own right and ended the hyphenation of India with Pakistan. Now Pakistan is hyphenated with Afghanistan and that is the way it should be.

Bill Clinton ended the Kargil war and made Nawaz Sharif (and wascally Musharraf) to withdraw their forces from Kashmir in a humiliating defeat. Bill's involvement paved the way for further improvement in relations during the Bush administration and led to the Indo-US nuclear cooperation treaty and India's entry into the NSG.

Indian-Americans are grateful.

PS: The Clintons eat Indian food at least twice a week as well. On the night of the Benghazi hearings, Hillary and her campaign workers ate Indian food for example to celebrate the victory against Trey Gowdy.

.

Upper and upper-middle class white women pushed for the suffrage, and they needed the vote of the black women who have been fighting for over 40 years for rights and a voice. They were skeptical of these white groups, after being fed lip service for decades, but went along in good faith.

Then, when the woman's right to vote was passed, the white women abandoned them.

She did apologize for this joke which was some years before she first ran for president . But even then most Indian americans didn't have a problem with it.

Most were supporting her when i was trying to get support for Obama. But most also said that really liked obama also.

The Clintons just have a lot of connections into different communities.

Some named gandhi (no relation to civil rights leader) who do run gas stations.

I guess it's different than if it was to a non Indian audience.

But mostly it's because of their ties to the community that it won't hurt them. Same with joe biden . Both of them have long time relationships in the community .

She probably says all kinds of stuff like that. Maybe she didn't realize the camera was on.

It seemed like someone trying to look cool by making a quick ethnic joke.
