New Hampshire Republican Party launches online petition supporting … Bernie Sanders

New Hampshire's Republican Party on Monday launched an online petition urging the state Democratic Party's superdelegates to “listen to their constituents” and support New Hampshire primary winner Bernie Sanders at the party’s national convention.

Sanders won the primary vote by a margin of 60 percent to 38 percent over Hillary Clinton, but he appears to be tied with Clinton in the state delegate count.

“How is this possible?” the NHGOP petition says. “Because Democrats have set up an undemocratic system that allows party elites called ‘super delegates’ to single-handedly cancel out the votes of thousands of grassroots activists.”

The superdelegates are top party-elected and national party officials who automatically receive delegate status.

The Democratic Party will send 32 delegates to the convention from New Hampshire, and as a result of the primary vote, it appears that Sanders will emerge after delegate voting is completed in April with 15 delegates compared to nine for Clinton.

what REALLY went on behind the scenes in NH last week, doesn't it?

GOPer urging Dem SuperDs to switch to Sanders, LOL. The GOP has no credibility whatsoever with SuperDs.

If Bernie wins the majority of pledged delegates in the primaries, the SuperDs WILL either switch or be released by Hillary or both will happen, following the usual precedent. This point always gets lost in the hysterical shuffle when one's preferred candidate does NOT have the SuperDs' backing. But Bernie is very unlikely to win the majority of pledged delegates, IMO.

It is VERY interesting that the GOP is fighting Bernie's battles. It goes to show how much they absolutely do NOT want to run against Hillary Clinton.

And they're right. Super delegates are undemocratic, and by the admission of DWS herself are only there to prevent grassroots upstarts within the primary. What country are we living in?

No doubt he knew what he was getting in to, but I don't think a lot of people really understood the power of the Super Delegates until now.

Such an outrageous ratio of SDs going to one candidate regardless of primary results, there is an intensified focus on the SD concept.

Of course they'd prefer the candidate who they believe will be the one who can be easily defeated in the general election.

They hate her. Quoting my republican relatives when pressed as to why - they hate the idea of political dynasties (same reason Jeb is being rejected) and they think Clinton is phony and will say whatever to get elected. (maybe more astute than I've ever given them credit for!)

In 2008, Rush Limbaugh encouraged Republicans cross lines to vote for Clinton. Why? To cause chaos in the Democratic Party. Trying to undermine the party as a whole is a favorite Republican pasttime. This is not different. If Sanders' and Clinton's positions were reversed, I would expect Republicans to show their support for Clinton.

Rove spending money to hurt Clinton. Planned Parenthood being relentlessly attacked as the establishment. Sanders supporting the right wing extremist "audit the fed" bill. Story after story about how Sanders supporters second choice is Trump. Before Paul dropped out Sanders had volunteers at all of his events.

The list goes on and on and it isn't simply republican shenanigans.
