(631 posts)Says an attendee to the Goldman Sachs speeches. No surprise there.
In the age of YouTube, politicians can't lie anymore, unless they control the levers of power. In a democracy within an age of ubiquitous technology, those levers belong to everyone.
Only corruption stands between the current oligarchy and democracy.

(2,546 posts)I got the offer from a Big Pharma Lobbyist... "____ IF you're willing to work with, play ball with the Pharmaceutical Industry we'll get you all the contributions you want..." I did not take it and replied, Where would my credibility be IF I did the same thing as my Republican opponent does? DONE I did not get elected! THAT IS HOW THE SYSTEM "WORKS..."
Knowing WHAT I know from personal experience as a candidate for the U. S. House of Representatives I SUPPORT SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS exclusively because he IS telling the TRUTH... He has it RIGHT and HE CAN BE TRUSTED... whereas his opponent, the former Secretary of State... CANNOT... be trusted!

(18,133 posts). Might even include something about the economy. Maybe even banking regulation/deregulation. so let's hear what she said to them about these things visa vie what she has to say to the rest of us. If it's consistent her claim that their money doesn't hold influence might be able to hold some water

She also spoke to the American Camping Association, Women's Real Estate Council, UCLA and other colleges, Gap, Society for Human Resources Management, Green Building Council, Let's Talk Entertainment, American Jewish University, American College of Pathology, Travel Industry, Beaumont Health System, International Dairy Bakery Deli Association, Canada 2020, Ebay, and a bunch more like that.

(54,770 posts)$5Gs per minute is not a bad rate. Heck, how much does a a top football player make. Of course, it took a lot more than a few minutes to get to the point where people want to hear you so much that they will pay that.

(14,308 posts)The main reason to bring them in is to make workers feel good about their company.
Therefore the speeches are peppered with compliments to the company. The speaker will open his speech saying how happy he is to be speaking before X company. Then he will spend 10 minutes detailing why X company is such a great company and how much its done for America.
That's why she won't release the speeches. They will be filled with lines about how great Goldman Sachs is and what a storied history it's had and how much America owes to Goldman Sachs.
Nothing against Hillary. That's just how those speeches go. Goldman Sachs doesn't pay someone $ 200,000 to insult it.

(18,133 posts)but given, among other things, we know she said this at the NASDAQ, i doubt her comments were just platitudes
Now these economic problems are certainly not all Wall Streets fault not by a long shot, Clinton said early in the speech.

(50,130 posts)Thanks to Matt Taibbi and Politico.
She told Goldman Sachs that the Recession of 2008 was not solely the fault of Wall Street; that WE ALL contributed to it, and she told them that WE all must fix it.
She gave them a way to sleep at night, absolving them of full responsibility.

Oh, and, that's why it was a stupid thing to do if she wanted to run for president. Which she did. Poor judgment.

When Hillary Clinton spoke to Goldman Sachs executives and technology titans at a summit in Arizona in October of 2013, she spoke glowingly of the work the bank was doing raising capital and helping create jobs, according to people who saw her remarks.
Clinton, who received $225,000 for her appearance, praised the diversity of Goldmans workforce and the prominent roles played by women at the blue-chip investment bank and the tech firms present at the event. She spent no time criticizing Goldman or Wall Street more broadly for its role in the 2008 financial crisis.
It was pretty glowing about us, one person who watched the event said. Its so far from what she sounds like as a candidate now. It was like a rah-rah speech. She sounded more like a Goldman Sachs managing director.
