2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWe need a major shift of American wealth back into more of our own hands... we need to reacquire
and reinvest the wealth we've created through our innovations and labor. A small select few people, who run large multinational corporations have been buying our Representatives and therefor writing our laws in order to set the economic levers of our government to redirect our money and our wealth into their own bank accounts and investments throughout the world. They then use this wealth and power they bought, to enhance and increase their media control, legislative control & economic control which in turn allows them more complete control of government levers and its powers. This 1% owns our media and unfortunately owns our politicians
Question: how do we restructure our wealth distribution ?
Progressive Taxes ?
Increase the worth of labor hours...aka.. increase minimum wages ?
Removal of the monetary system of capitalism out of our cost for personal Health care ?
Removal of the monetary system of capitalism out of our cost for educating ourselves and increasing the total worth of our society ?
Narrow the veins of wealth flow from us and our society into the bank accounts and investments of industries which need war in order to gain capital ?
Narrow the veins of wealth flow from us and our society into the bank accounts and investments of industries which market our future and present law makers ?

(631 posts)That is power in the people's hands. (Although, I wish they also had running water.)
All of your selections will push us in the right direction. All are equally important. The following are only organized to help build a movement toward a better democracy
1. I would say raising the minimum wage to a living wage should be first priority. That will put power where it belongs: into the hands of people who earned it. In turn, building confidence in ourselves and each other. Which in turn will boost the economy, and get our creative juices flowing so that we can work on the many, many problems that ail us.
2. Identifying corruption in the oligarchy system, and prosecute those who broke the laws that brought our economy down (and continue to keep it down). This should only be the first volley in fighting for transparency in all government actions. This would 'narrow the veins of wealth flow' without imposing any new rules that would otherwise be deemed 'socialist'. The 'fear of big gub'mnt' would be baseless when all government transactions are open to the public review. This is the opposite of our current oligarchy where our fear of big corporations is justified because there is absolutely no hope of transparency in an oligarchy. Transparency is so much easier in the age of YouTube.
Those two are only first because they are already favored by the majority of the American people. Again giving more confidence in a government 'of the people, by the people, and for the people'.
There are so many other issues that could possibly stem from building confidence in each other as a nation who cares about social, economic, and racial justice. For instance, Healthcare as a right to all citizens would prove to be so successful that we will wonder why it took us so long to see it through. However, it will take a while. Also, fair share of taxes to be paid by all, is also a no brainer, but it will take a while and a great deal of mutual trust to structure a fair progressive tax system. Similarly with immigration reform that needs to occur simultaneously tied to changing some of our disastrous foreign policies in Central America.
These and many more are so important, but it will be most important to keep the American people involved within the democratic movement.
