Anyone want a Republican debate thread? (PART 1)

Might as well keep up with the opposition. So far there's a lot of focus on military actions in the world. I'm keeping track of their position statements for posting later. So far, some of the stuff I've got is a little nuts.

I'll start by inserting my earlier post re: first question:

First question, re: Scalia:

Trump # 1. Up to mcconnell to delay nomination.

Kasich: Wish POTUS would not nominate.

Carson: Create healing; won't get it with Potus Obama.

Rubio: POTUS should not appoint. Originalist.

Bush: No litmus test on specific issues, but believes in limited government. POTUS has the right to appoint, and needs a concencus but there won't be one.

Cruz: Precedent to not confirm in nomination year. Senate should 'stand firm' against. OH FFS, then he campaigns for himself.

I don't think the Republicans that are running for president live

in the same country I live in.

Republican debate script: (War War, war, war, terror, terror, terror, terror. The

Republican party is not responsible for anything that is wrong with the country.

Everything bad happened under Obama's watch. Bush kept us safe. Reagan was a saint.)

I do not know a single person who is afraid in this country.

I know people who are pissed at the government.

I know people who are pissed at inequality.

I know people who are pissed at the government sanctioned illegality of Wall Street.

I know people who are pissed because of the endless wars that are draining our hard

earned tax dollars.

I know people who are pissed with the health care system.

I know people who are pissed because on the constant intrusion of religion.

I know people who are pissed because they think religion is under attack.

I know people with varied opinions in both parties.

Warmongering and terror never comes up in the conversation.

Sun Feb 14, 2016, 12:16 AM
Feb 2016

I did the best I could in spite of the fighting and general train-wreckiness of the whole thing...this is by no means comprehensive:

Cruz
***Supreme Court - Wants the Senate to stall government further by blocking the presidents Supreme Court nominee.
***National Security - Believes a nuclear Iran is the greatest national security threat. Would arm Kurds as a ground force against ISIS and supplement our Air Force.
***Taxes - Would significantly reduce taxes and abolish the IRS. Would also implement a 16% across the board on business. Flat tax after $36,000 on individuals.
***Immigration - Would deport undocumented immigrants and children brought her by their parents. Firmly opposes amnesty.
***Poverty - *didn’t really give any particular policies*

Rubio
***Supreme Court - Believes the president should neglect his constitutional duty to nominate Supreme Court justices.
***National Security - Mentioned a ton of countries that we need to increase our presence in. Focused particularly on working against Russia.
***Taxes - Would gear tax policy to be more family friendly.
***Immigration - Deport undocumented immigrants. Build a 700 mile wall. Apparently supports amnesty for those already here. Enforce current law before addressing those here.
***Poverty - Turn anti-poverty programs over to states.
***Other - Thanked God that Bush was in office on 9/11 and claimed he kept us safe. Blamed Clinton for 9/11.

Trump
***Supreme Court - Wants the Senate to stall government further by blocking the presidents Supreme Court nominee.
***National Security - Opposes the Iran deal. Would focus on ISIS with a full military force. Wants to clear up who it is we’re supporting in Syria.
***Social Safety Net - Didn’t answer question on social program funding. Would work to eliminate waste in Social Security.
***Immigration - *Missed his remarks* I imaging it had to do with building a wall and deporting everyone.
***Outsourcing - Would work with congress to prevent outsourcing, probably through taxes and tariffs.
***Other - Denounced the Iraq war. Will maybe work towards not swearing. Claimed he never went bankrupt.

Kasich
***Supreme Court - Wants the Senate to stall government further by blocking the presidents Supreme Court nominee.
***National Security - Would arm Ukraine against Russia. Thinks we should lead the world against ISIS in a coalition against ISIS.
***Healthcare - Defended expanding Medicaid program in his state based on it keeping people off the street and out of medical debt.
***Immigration - Seal the border, supports “Path to Legalization”, not citizenship, based on a fine and back taxes.

Bush
***Supreme Court - Understands the constitution in regards to how the Supreme Court nomination process runs.
***National Security - Sees no future for partnering with Russia against ISIS. Would increase military spending by reversing the sequester. Would also move against Iran.
***Taxes - Believes investment income should be taxed at the same rate as regular income.
***Healthcare - For a full repeal and replace (order not specified) of the Affordable Care Act.
***Immigration - Tighten rules on overstayed VISAs. Supports “Path to Legal Status”, as opposed to citizenship, for those already here.
***Imminent Domain - Supports it for infrastructure.
***Other - Feels he can unite Democrats and Republicans in Congress.

Carson
***Supreme Court - Doesn’t understand that it is the president’s constitutional duty to nominate Supreme Court Justices.
***National Security - Believes we stabilized Iraq. Wants to loosen the rules of engagement for the military.
***Taxes - Never got to the details of his plan in his time to answer.
***Financial Oversight - Supports deregulation of the financial industry.
