Be VERY careful about going after Jim Clyburn if you have any hope of swinging the black vote in SC

to Sanders.

I suggest you first learn something about his history, his record and his reputation - and think very long and very hard before you try to come at him.

if Sanders wants to get a sizable chunk of the black vote away from Hillary, he's got to go through Clyburn - a highly-respected powerhouse in South Carolina, former Chair of the CBC and former House Whip. Dismissing him as if his endorsement means nothing is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Folks were falling all over themselves a few days ago when Harry Belafonte endorsed Sanders. Jim Clyburn is worth countless Harry Belafontes in this campaign.

The stories about Sanders supporters going after people, however, are bunk.

If you actually click on the names of the examples given in these stories, you'll find the vast majority aren't anyone's supporter, are right-wingers or are just interested in politics. Of the couple dozen listed in the stories, I've fond one guy who was a Bernie supporter and another woman who MIGHT be, but I'm not sure.

To write a story claiming Bernie supporters are going after Lewis (or anyone else) without provide on lick-spittle of proof is sleazy politics and everyone who does it should be called out.

Click on the Tweets they've posted.

Of the couple of dozen provided in two stories, I found ONE who was a definite Bernie supporter and one who may be (both of these people happened to be AAs, btw). The rest had no particular political persuasion, were right-wingers or were just interested in politics and posted about a variety of candidates on both sides.

No proof that any horde of Bernie supported "went after" anyone.

Clyburn on 2008: Bill Clinton Told Me, "If You Bastards Want A Fight, You Damn Well Will Get One"

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), the most powerful African-American in Congress, recalls a 2am phone call he received from Bill Clinton after Barack Obama defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2008 South Carolina primary.

Clyburn stayed neutral in the primary, however Bill Clinton didn't think so.

"If you bastards want a fight, you damn well will get one," Clinton said according to Clyburn.

"He was very upset," Clyburn recalled. "His wife had just suffered a major defeat in the South Carolina primary, and I had not been involved in it, but Bill Clinton thought otherwise."

"We met by accident several weeks later… we've seen each other several times since. In fact, I had a lovely breakfast with Hillary two to three years after that. I think everything's okay," Clyburn told ABC News' Jeff Zeleny in an interview aired on Yahoo!
