(10,650 posts)Bernie needs to have a big win to knock the Super Delegates off their trajectory. If Hillary stalls Bernie's momentum, she'll win the nomination. A tie helps her in that.

(5,761 posts)The race is now a dead heat nationwide.

(10,650 posts)If he and Hillary split the voter delegates somewhat evenly, the Super Delegates decide the winner. Right now, they are leaning decidedly to Hillary.
Bernie has to score big in a debate to change that dynamic--that or have another landslide victory in a key primary state.

(5,761 posts)SD's will NEVER go against what the country wants and remind us again what Hillary's national lead was 2 months ago? Guess where the momentum is? Not in Hillary's camp.

(10,650 posts)So what the Democratic voters want is roughly an even split. In that case Hillary gets the nomination due to the Super Delegates. She has a lot of support from them.
Hillary's big national lead was never sustainable. Yes, Bernie has momentum as he becomes better known. But ties don't get him a lead. He has to win a clear majority of the primary votes.

Oh look at that, it even says "Dead Heat".
I WIN! XD

(23,867 posts)It's a tie if what she says isn't lies. It's a tie if being a pal with Kissinger is something to be proud of. It's a tie if changing position to mimic Bernie Sanders is considered genuine.

(46,416 posts)for the Hillary Clinton campaign and their friendly media to proclaim a win for Clinton, whereas up until now a debate was just a hoop, just an exercise, she had to jump through on the way to the coronation--all she had to do was not screw up badly. It's really amazing how it's changed almost overnight. No more "oh, we have two/three good candidates, isn't it great to get their ideas out there, blah blah"--everyone gets a trophy-type pablum.
