by Jonathan Cohn, Senior National Correspondent, The Huffington Post
Thursday nights Democratic presidential debate began with a dispute over health care policy and ended with an argument about President Barack Obamas legacy.
But in each of those moments, and at several points in between, Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) were really arguing over something very basic.
Can the next president eliminate, or at least weaken substantially, the political obstacles that block a liberal agenda?
Sanders thinks the answer is yes. Clinton thinks the answer is no.

(9,313 posts)I recently moved from NJ to Seattle... backyard visits from "our" Cardinals is one of the hings I miss most. We had a pair that came for years. They were always recognizable because the male was unusually small. A highlight of Spring was watching them with their "kids" -- who looked bigger than them with all their fluff. Sigh... send the Cardinals a greeting from me and stay warm!

(972 posts)is that Bernie and millions of us are sick and tired of the political corruption that infests both political parties. Both parties seek to divide us along racial, sexual and cultural lines while they do the bidding of the wealthy class. That is the real divide and the reason that political change is not possible with the current system. It is also the reason that Bernie's first objective is to take money out of the equation.

(13,141 posts)fundamental issue of this campaign.
Corruption itself, in its many forms, is the main obstacle to progress. Greed, lies & bribes, cheat & deceit. "Short-sightedness" to put it kindly.
I have been reflecting on what people view as Bernie's ideological naivete and lack of practical experience, the question of what qualifies him for this job?
I look at his keen & unusual intelligence, his perceptiveness, and his honest nature. Over the span of many years -- in activism, politics & finally in Congress -- he's been an informed progressive: learning, observing, listening, noticing, thinking, & envisioning solutions.
I have no doubt he knows PLENTY about how DC works, what's broken, who"s corrupt, and how to change things -- much more than anyone realizes.
Sanders' confidence in this election is so lighthearted, my perception. He keeps getting a good feeling about one state after another. Me too!
