(18,133 posts)I'm sure you know the difference between quoting someone and cherry picking from quotes.
All Hillary said was Bernie called the President weak and disappointing - zero about the why. And furthermore, she waited until the final seconds of the debate so that Bernie could not even offer the why.

(18,133 posts)I watched the debate and I watched the Hartman interview. What Clinton said had almost zero resemblance to what Sanders said except that they both used the words weak and disappointment. And she picked a time to make her comments when Sanders was left with no time to respond. So he simply pointed out that she ran against him.

(70,299 posts)Hillary protrays the difference--or tries to contract her record with Sanders--immediately several threads are started with the word ATTACK

(58,785 posts)shortly after. Sanders called Obama weak and disappointing.
It's a campaign statement, you guys. When they do not go over well, smart people do not keep them alive arguing about them for days. They let them die asap and move on.
If more people came here and saw this foolishness, I'd say you guys were flat killing Bernie. As it is, if Sanders only had more widespread "support" like this, Hillary could cancel half her appearances and still win.

(9,289 posts)between saying that someone is weak and saying that someone was weak in negotiating with Republicans about x.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)what was meant. I listened carefully to the interview twice, Vattel, and I'm not inclined to manufacture a fake difference to cover Bernie's ass. Or to wonder if he didn't actually mean the President should exercise more. He also deliberately stated later that Obama had "moved right," so clearly the interview was meant as a vehicle for serious criticism.
People who speak in public for a living inevitably now and then say things that cause problems for them, immediately or later. Again, for those who don't like these things coming back to bite him, stop talking about them.

(51,076 posts)Hasn't got a snowballs chance in hell of winning this nomination.
if by hook or crook she did pull it off the repubil'CONs would come of of the wood work in droves to vote against her even if they had to vote for tRump or cruz. Hillary is not ever going to be President and you can bet on that.
I remember when I used to support her, even here on DU but those days are long past gone.

(57,936 posts)Sanders is right. I agree with his statement.
Obamacare is a step forward, but not adequate to insure everyone. And Obama's lack of success in a number of areas was due to his reluctance or inability to call on his supporters to lobby strongly with their members of Congress for better laws and better measures.
Obama faced tremendous balking and obstruction on the parts of Republicans, but in the face of the Republicans, Obama did not fully utilize his greatest strength -- the support of millions of us out here.
That is one of the sad things about Obama's presidency.

(145,554 posts)However, these comments from Sanders will not help Sanders with the African American vote in South Carolina.
I am not African American but I do strongly believe that President Obama has been a great president and I strongly disagree with Sanders comments on the Hartman show. I am not willing to risk the control of the SCOTUS on a candidate who I do not think is viable in the general election and whose programs have no chance of being adopted.

Is this really all you can say? Must be very frustrated to go down to that level of nonsense.

(658 posts)I am not a Hillary hater. On the contrary, I believe she deserves our respect for having given the best part of her life to public service. AND... if... and it's a YUGE if... she is nominated, I will definitely vote for her in the general election, but she threw some wing dingers out this evening.
I'm not a political expert, so I don't know who won the debate. All I know is that she was absolutely gunning for Bernie. She was less interested in concentrating on the issues as she was for discrediting Bernie Sanders.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, and again, and again....
Go Bernie!!!!!
He's the type of candidate that we haven't seen since JFK, and I'll predict that we won't see one like him for another 20 years. We need to elect this man in 2016.
I believe she deserves our respect for having given the best part of her life to public service.
I'd do the same thing if it made me a multi-millionaire.

(658 posts)She is one of our candidates. I will absolutely support her if she wins the nomination. My comments were directly related to the debate this evening. I believe Hillary Clinton felt she needed a win, so she made an assault on Bernie. She was more interested in discrediting him than she was in debating the issues.
I sir, am a Democrat first and foremost. I'll happily vote for Bernie when he wins the nomination, and... I'll gladly vote for Hillary in the unlikely event that she wins the nomination.
Go Bernie!!!

(4,407 posts)The phrase is, "Show, don't tell." Bernie should just show Hillary to be a liar rather than making the accusation - which, of course, would follow with people saying he hates women or some such shit.

(12,769 posts)Much as we know the truth, I admire Bernie's restraint and resolve to attempt his best to keep the debates positive. I don't think I could do it but I admire him for it.
I would hate to see him stoop to her level.

(17,796 posts)and I'm OK with that. Those who don't care about her lies won't change their minds just because Bernie points it out. And doing so provides some cover for the mud-slinging that she's just began to ramp up.

(4,975 posts)He's very much a gentleman and has made a point that he will not attack her personally.
If he does - then its obvious from previous "non-attacks" that Hillary will cry "foul" and "victim of his smears, etc." And the media goes crazy with "Bernie going negative" -- even if it's not.
I do wish, however, he would mention more of the money from private prisons - her support of fracking - her saying that we needed to start thinking of Iraq as a business opportunity - and so many other things.
