Michael Eric Dyson: Obama Played It Safe Because Fox Called Him Angry Black Man Night Before
Appearing on MSNBCs NOW on Tuesday, Georgetown University Professor Michael Eric Dyson claimed that, in his opinion, President Barack Obama was overly deferential to Mitt Romney during the debate because he was concerned he may come off as an angry black man. Dyson said that a tape released by The Daily Caller and broadcast on Fox News Channel on Tuesday night may have been on Obamas mind during Wednesday nights debate.

He had the least to lose, Dyson interjected. Mitt Romney came into the game, so to speak, not expected to do well back against the wall and, therefore, hes free to throw darts and see what lands.
Dyson then pivoted to what he believed could be in Obamas head during last nights debate, which was The Daily Caller tape of him from 2007 attacking the federal governments response to Hurricane Katrina and suggesting there were unresolved racial issues behind that insufficient response.
Obama has just been subject to the Fox News treatment of angry black man again, said Dyson. Lets not forget this. Lest we pretend that that doesnt make a difference to the specter hanging over his neck that I cant come off as too vigorous, because then it looks like Im being an angry black man.

(22,143 posts)That's a bullshit reason to let someone walk all over you. If you let them dictate the terms of your behavior, you've lost before the game has started. Fuck Fox News, get that bastard. No one even knows about the idiotic video "scandal" from the night before except for those politically attuned. The average dope that is just paying attention for the first time saw a timid, weak, stammering man being dominated by a strong, aggressive, decisive one. It doesn't matter if he was lying or not if they don't know he was lying. These people tune out politics altogether except for the debates. They don't watch Current or MSNBC or anything that will straighten it out.
That was a piss poor performance and to keep going back to the Jackie Robinson excuse to explain not defending yourself is horseshit.

(14,732 posts)excuse is just as piss-poor as the "rope-a-dope" and "sixty-dimension chess" wishful thinking arguments people are making today to try and erase the embarrasing performance by the President last night. I don't know what happened to him, but he appeared disengaged, servile, ill-informed, weak and disinterested. I'm glad he didn't pull a Pappy Bush and pull out his watch to see how much longer he had to be there.
