Are we sure we want this family back in the White House?

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/06/politics/bill-clinton-crime-prisons-hillary-clinton/

Bill Clinton concedes role in mass incarceration

Oh I know it was her hubby - not her - right? WRONG!!!!

As first lady, Clinton helped push the omnibus crime bill in public, calling it a "well-thought out crime bill that is both smart and tough" in a 1994 interview.

She said that the crime bill would keep violent offenders locked up "so they could never get out again" and touted the "three strikes" provision specifically.

"We will finally be able to say, loudly and clearly, that for repeat, violent, criminal offenders: three strikes and you're out. We are tired of putting you back in through the revolving door," Clinton said in 1994.

"The bad news is we had a lot of people who were essentially locked up who were minor actors for way too long," he added.

There are many convincing arguments for it even though it would be incredibly difficult to research exactly who here now is connected to that time period. What is easier to do is follow the consequences of slavery and its aftermath: black flight to the north and the horrendous non-welcome from the the banks, ownership class and lawmakers; segregation; unfair justice system; war on drugs; for-profit prison system; inferior schools & school to jail pipeline; food deserts; and on and on.

I'd love to see someone step up and say reparations make sense and here's how we are going to do it: Get people out of jail and give them REAL help in getting back on their feet, put community centers all over the country in minority neighborhoods that focus on developing skills and hobbies/sports for children, teens and adults, raise the minimum wage so that someone working 40 hours can support a family of three at a minimum. Help with home ownership -perhaps like the VA has or help with temporary housing to save for down payment on permanent housing.

To be honest, I don't know how to put a check into the hands of everyone that deserves it, but I do know that the country does have a debt to pay for the INSTITUTIONAL racism that began with slavery and continues to this day.
