They stack the deck against the outsiders.
That's how the Dems ended up with Jimmy Carter, Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
It's shameful!

(14,577 posts)Let's remember that many of the super delegates in 08 scuttled the 'inevitable' Hillary Clinton, whom many of them had already 'endorsed,' when it looked like voters were going in the direction of Obama.
There's corruption in every system that contains humans, simply because of the basic loathsomeness of our species, but most super delegates are like the rest of the people. In fact, many are simply super delegates because they have 'paid their dues' by working for the party in a series of elections. Because, as someone pointed out in an earlier OP today, elections are hard work. So, we're making the hypothetical 'Alice' here a super delegate because for the last 4 elections she has worked real hard to GOTV. In the case of the hypothetical Alice, when she sees what the will of the voters in her precinct actually is, she may vote her conscience, but will be more likely to go with the will of the majority in her precinct. At least that's my admittedly limited understanding of the whole super delegate thing.
Some super delegates are Dems who have or are holding elective office. They are a different animal, and will vote according to who has donated the most money to getting them reelected, unless a big majority of John Q. Voters is going the other direction, in which case the old adage of 'rats fleeing a sinking ship' may apply. Again, these rats streamed off the USS Clinton when it was sinking in 08.
So, what can I as 'Patrick Q. Voter' control? I can control my actions at the caucus or who I vote for in the primary. I can also donate to may candidate of choice (BERNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and help his campaign in other ways. THAT'S what I CAN do, so that is what I'm going to worry about.
Not super delegates, or the kitchen sink memes going out there now from Clinton surrogates. Just my own vote, for the candidate I KNOW will do the most to address the issues me and my family care about.
