The Two Hillarys, and why they cancel each other out

IMO, one of the reasons that Clinton has "trust issues" is that there are two Hillarys.

There's the inspirational "can do" Clinton, who speaks with passion about the need to raise wages, advance the situation of women and children, squarely address racism restore civil rights, prevent gun violence, go after Wall St. crime and move forward other issues. She is the one who can do those these things if elected.

But then there's the other Clinton. The "no can do" Clinton. Let Those Unicorns Die of Starvation. The one who lectures us that it's not realistic to think we can have large goals and dreams and hopes. Nothing significant can be done because the GOP is ALL Powerful. It's foolish to attempt more fundamental reforms to the status quo, other than tweaks around the edges that are acceptable to the GOP.

I get it. She is trying to create the impression that she is so skilled, and knowledgeable and adept that she will lead the changes that are realistic and will advance progressive goals gradually by adhering to a centrist middle ground.

But instead it creates cognitive dissonance. She is equally passionate about raising hopes and dreams as she is at smashing them.

That doesn't tend to make a person feel like they can get a handle on which of the Two Clintons we'd get if she is elected to the WH.

I think there's a certain calculation behind it too. But the calculations backfire Armstead Feb 2016 #2

i got to be pretty quick on my feet....

all joking aside...I think you are not far off from a fairly non-professional aspect...Hillary leaves opposing impressions depending on what she is addressing, who she is addressing, etc. and it doesn't appear to be something she is aware of...it's like the old saying "I meant it when I said it..." without the realization that the listener's attention span includes the 'previous time you said it'....

of enthusiastically claiming to be championing nearly all of the aspects of her positions that, previous to the election results, were somewhat opposite in nature....she gave a hell of a Bernie speech...

as if everyone who has heard her for the past 6 months (or much, much longer) would not notice the shift...

when calculating it's always wise to remember math can get tricky
