Bernie's tax dollar investments will go to Wall Street, among others

One things Republicans ignore is that a huge amount of government spending ends up in the hands of the businesspeople and investors. There is nothing wrong with this. It's just the way our economic system works. But, the fact is that most of the money Bernie wants to invest -- whether it's for rebuilding the infrastructure, improving education, or reducing poverty -- ultimately goes from the consumer to local stores, corporations, and banks. I realize this fact may not be popular with everyone, but the relevant point is that these investments are no more handouts to the poor than they are to the rich, and as such not only should those who are struggling be pleased with Bernie's ideas, but so should those who have 401ks, small businesses, and so on. The only people who will really be hurt by his proposals are the rich who may actually be taxed at a rate that exceeds the amount amount the tax payers are indirectly handing them through his proposals.

ie, trickle up actually does reach everyone, as opposed to 'trickle-down' which is nonsense. nt Erich Bloodaxe BSN Feb 2016 #1

I like "bubble up economics." Boiling sounds a.little punitive, but bubbling sounds like movement. hedda_foil Feb 2016 #5

The system is still rigged to allow the rich a cut of everything, but progressive taxation would give us the wiggle room to relieve anyone who is left out.

Good point. Nothing wrong with our government creating an environment that's good for business through tax policy, zoning laws, etc. as long as it's balanced with progressive policies ensuring the well being of the whole populace. The one phrase I have a "problem" with is "The only people who will really be hurt..." because none of the people who will see increases in their taxes will actually be "hurt". Even us Proles who would see an increase in our payroll taxes would realize a net gain while those uber wealthy folks who realize larger effective tax rates will still be making gobs of money and won't see a drop in their quality of life.

There's no "hurt" here.
