have you even bothered to notice that the craziest bastards in the clown car are the front runners?
If Trump or Cruz gets the nomination - which looks more likely each day - we could run a fucking chicken salad sandwich against them and win 300 electoral votes, maybe 400. There's a chance these two racist morons could be paired on the ticket.
If you think an honest, plain spoken public servant like Bernie can't appeal to a majority of Americans over THAT steaming hot pile, well, you might want to take a little closer look at Trump & Cruz's negatives among REPUBLICANS, let alone the other 60% of Americans.
It's time for actual change. Bernie can not only win, but potentially carry many Democrats into Congress on his coattails if he's facing Trump or Cruz or both. Hillary's high negatives among the general public (and even Democrats - look at the honesty/trustworthiness numbers out of NH) would make that race far closer than it should be, and while I think she would win, I see no chance for coattails, meaning more gridlock, more status quo, more getting fucked over by the system that is currently crushing working-class and poor Americans.

(3,166 posts)Trump would appeal to the voters who can't stand either party, but Cruz would appeal to no one other than religious right voters.....I can't see any independents or moderates voting for Cruz at all....Even many righties can't stomach Cruz...

(2,064 posts)another poll comes out showing Trump or Cruz MILES ahead of folks like Kasich (who I agree, as do some others, would be the toughest opponent). South Carolina looks like another Trump/Cruz 1-2, with the only possible surprise being Cruz hopping the Donald into first. One of the other Rs is going to have to climb out of the back seat of the clown car and grab the wheel in at least 1 or 2 states before I start to doubt the inevitability of Trump or Cruz carrying the GOP banner in November.
Like I said, I think Hillary beats either one. I just don't see the enthusiasm and the sheer exuberance and joy at her events that I do at Bernie's. That's the stuff of coattails, IMHO. The support I see for Hillary just doesn't seem as motivated or energized. Maybe that's because of the general demographic differences (HRC supporters skew older/wealthier), as I don't think her supporters are by nature as loud/demonstrative as Bernie's. That may well be my personal bias but I see it reflected in media coverage everywhere (both commercial media outlets and social media).
If someone other than Trump or Cruz starts winning, I'll certainly have to reasses my viewpoint. But right now, Bernie seems 1000x times more presidential than the R alternative. If he can encourage voters to look at countries such as Sweden, Germany, France, & the UK and embrace a more engaged federal government, I think he could win big. The vision the GOP will put forth will probably look a lot like W's 3rd term, if Trump even bothers to provide any detail beyond "it'll be great".

(42,862 posts)I don't like Bernie. I love Hillary. She's the best and smartest candidate and I'd be very PROUD to see her in the White House and representing this country.
(And Bernie would most certainly lose to John Kasich.)

(13,933 posts)My candidate dropped out after Iowa and I don't plan to pick another unless the race happens to be going on when it is time for the late primary in my state.
But in my opinion, whoever wins the primary is best suited to win the general election. Not only because the other won't be running, but because if a candidate can't win a primary he or she is not the strongest candidate. Whichever it is may not win -- I don't think it is going to be easy in either case-- but if the other one couldn't beat 'em in a primary, they wouldn't have won either.
And in Bernie's case, if he wins the primary, then it means that he is a much stronger candidate than people who thought he'd lose the primary thought he was. If he loses the primary, well, then, he isn't.
