Sen. Cory Booker: Sanders has 'long record of civil rights'

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/250686-booker-sanders-has-long-record-of-civil-rights

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said on Sunday that 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a life-long defender of minorities.

Booker added that his Senate colleague’s record is one of deep respect for civil rights.
“Bernie has become somebody I have tremendous respect for and is an ally of mine in addressing issues in the United States Senate that affect minority communities,” he said.

“He has a long record of civil rights,” Booker told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

Booker’s defense of Sanders follows a protest of the Vermont lawmaker’s campaign stop in Seattle the day before.

This article is from August of last year, but it seemed relevant today, given what is being said by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.

I don't agree with his endorsement of Hillary, but I respect his right to do so.

Just pointing out that at the time when Clinton was buying endorsements and superdelegates, Sanders had barely entered the race and wasn't considered to have a chance. She will lose some as she takes her campaign into the gutter, and the remainder at the convention when Sanders has more pledged delegates.

I respect that.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries endorsed Hillary today and completely mischaracterized Bernie as a 'new friend' of civil rights.

...the sad truth is that just about everyone in party politics is too close to Wall Street. This scene in L.A. Confidential sums it up:

I think a lot of good people just go along to get along and before you know it there is widespread corruption in both major parties.
