Romney Shines In Denver, Obama Camp Says So What

DENVER — Mitt Romney needed the first presidential debate to go smoothly and without major bumps. Even his harshest critics in the Obama campaign acknowledged after the debate ended here Wednesday night that he hit those marks.

But he also exposed himself to new criticisms over his still-vague proposals. President Obama, who spent most of the night on the defensive, still got a few licks in of his own. His campaign said afterwards it didn’t expect Romney’s performance to change much.

Obama and Romney seemed eager to go at each other, blowing through the first 15 minute segment of the open-style format allotted for for jobs questions. Throughout the debate the two candidates confronted and questioned each other on issues ranging from taxes to Medicare to the deficit. Moderator Jim Lehrer spent most of his time on the sidelines, trying to corral the candidates into the loosely-defined issue “pods.”

Romney, who spent weeks in debate prep, was poised. Obama was less so, seemingly on the defensive for much of the forum as Romney went after him.

Even Team Obama acknowledged Romney’s successes.

3. You're calling Romney's success last night a blip?

Don't you think it's possible overconfidence like that that can get us into trouble?

You may turn out to be right that it is just a 'blip' but I've been concerned about this happening all week - people just assuming everything will be fine and that there's nothing to worry about. That's what people were saying yesterday at this time, and look how last night turned out.

I hope last night was a major wake-up call.

6. I'm not going to fawn all over him--that's for sure

I think that his clumsy, arrogant, and devious behavior of the past few months speaks far louder than last night's carefully-scripted debate debacle. No, I am by no means complacent, because I can spot a phony a mile away, and when certain (gullible) people start following him like sheep to the slaughter, I become deeply concerned. My hope is that the undecideds will wake up--before it's too late--to the certain calamity that would result should he win.

You will not find any over-confident posts from me. I will believe Obama has won once he takes the oath of office a second time, and not before.

As for Nitt, I am reminded of the Shakespeare quote:
'It is a tale told by an idiot,
full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing.'

2. you know I thnk that is the best strategy for Obama team...

acknowledge that Mitt may have 'won' the debate on performance but in doing so he lost the war on substance and on lying that will come back to haunt him.

4. Romney was an aggressive, lying, spit flying out of his mouth bully straight from Foxx

verses the President as the methodical, thinking things thru adult in the room. Romney impeached himself, showed that he is not safe with the "football" meaning he will nuke Canada if they don't serve his bacon warm..

That said...the President did not correct Romney by questioning, redirecting facts to Romney's lies which would off thrown Romney into a tailspin.

5. Romney shines

the same as Turdblossom smells.

Romney went ugly. He won the Bill O'Reilly way.
He didn't actually win arguments.... he just filibustered,
obfuscated and lied in a more forceful manner.
And Obama got out of the way so everyone
could see Romney shine in all his glory.
