They had three times as many candidates on the ballot, so higher turnout would be expected.

A more significant factor might be the candidate to voter ratio for each each candidate.
How many voters came out for each of their respective candidates?

The higher R turnout may have been an indication of people voting AGAINST their perceived worst candidate on the R side.

Just goes to show how important education in America is. So many Republicans yet they have an insane line-up.

DNC should be ashamed of themselves. Their attempt to fix it for Hillary is hurting the party in so many ways.

to the Dem/Rep voter data

Independents are a major factor in this election since both parties have been losing members.

I guess we will see the data later but it should be interesting to see what correlations it reveals.

are mostly Okay with either Hill or Bern and will vote that way.
They aren't angry enough to stand in line for a Dem candidate in the snow but the other side are, so they came out and cast their vote for their favorite douchebag on the right but the Dem Leaning and independents will when their vote means stopping the selected douchebag in the next election.

If just 20,000 independents voted for relatively sane Republicans to stop Trump or Cruz, that would be more than enough to make up the difference.

Most primary votes are for the affiliated party. After that, you had to divide the R's 4 ways.
