2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe State I'll be watching is Ohio...
Obama has had an expanding and solid lead there--if that lead continues minus a point or two then I think Obama will have weathered his lackluster first debate ok. If, however, Romney makes a major surge there and is tied or a point or so behind, or even (less likely) suddenly a point or so ahead of Obama then I will be a bit worried and the next debate will have to be a solid Obama performance.

(1,532 posts)will lose Florida for Romney? I'm a little surprised he's doubling down on that instead of shaking his Etch-a-Sketch.

(33,497 posts)its possible Romney could make inroads there if his performance resonated with voters.

(1,990 posts)Look next at Virginia--if Obama's lead there has remained unchanged then he still has a reasonable shot. Virginia + Nevada + Wisconsin can still bring (exactly) 270 EV for Obama, if New Hampshire is now firmly in Obama's category.
I'm afraid that Obama didn't adequately respond to Romney's distortions about $716 billion Medicare cut, so I'm fearing Obama may have lost ground in Florida. And Colorado might be considerably more doubtful now.
Also Plouffe is an idiot if he thinks that it was wise for Obama not to bring up the 47% comment, given that it looks like Romney is making inroads in persuading gullible Americans that he is caring. A simple reference to the Romney saying that 47% who "don't believe in taking responsibility for their lives" would have countered a lot of Romney's bullshit.

(6,342 posts)I dont know if debates causes surges and bounces the way conventions do. But I think Obama's momentum will now cease. Obama seems to have been losing wind in the sails the last few days anyway for some reason.
Things could start to tighten a little bit. If he doesnt win the next debate, then you might see Romney start gaining momentum.
