I made the mistake of listening to Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz tonight and was really feeling low by the time I listened to their commentary after the debate. The only one who didn't go ballistic was Lawrence O'Donnell who had the good sense to remind THEM and the viewers that it's not the news crew at MSNBC who will decide who won or lost the debate. It's the American voters.

And yes, upon reflection, I think Mitt gave the Obama team a gift tonight that will be the gift that keeps on giving. Soon (within hours I predict) we will see ads with clips from tonight's debate that show Mitt for the liar, flip flopper he is. His base has got to be having a a meltdown after his abandoning so much of what he has campaigned on for months on end.

We all just need to remain calm. The President was himself tonight. Don't know what else we were expecting. I know Chris Matthews was hoping he would come out and "kick Mitt in the balls" but really now? Is that Obama's style? Have we EVER seen him come close to doing this? We have to trust Obama and his team. I think they will get the job done. Patience and calmness!!

And for goodness sake, let's don't join the other naysayers. That won't help us and it certainly won't help the President.

10. They thought Obama should have been more like Romeny, (aggressive and such) and I found

Romney rude and irritating. Think of how many times he interrupted the President and how many times he just HAD to have the last word. And I don't think he thanked the moderator or anyone for that matter for hosting the debate. Obama did.

When Obama talked about the tax cuts for shipping jobs overseas, Romney said he'd never heard that, and needed new accountants. That seemed like an interesting admission that he does outsource and would love that tax break.

The usual posturing. They are not true "debates" just sound bite sessions.

I don't recall any such meltdowns as we see here tonight. and the Republicans would NEVER do this to their own candidate. They would insist Mittens won no matter what he did or said or how he did or said it. Yet now we have Democrats practically making concession speeches. It's insane.

21. This is what drives me nuts about Democrats

It's amazing how all the Democratic spokespeople just curl up in the fetal position when the right attacks. You don't see that from them, that's for damn sure. They attack back. If Mitt had fucked up last night (which he didn't - like him or not, he did well in the debate), the right would be backing him up anyway. My people? The left? We fall all over ourselves with the "Woe is me, the president just lost the election" crap.

Apparently, Democrats still haven't figured out that perception is a big part of the game. They should be out there hammering Romney for lying instead of hammering the president for not being on fire enough. They should be forceful in saying, "The president was armed with facts. Mr. Romney had lies - but we'll admit he presented those lies well."

I just hate the day after freakout. Frankly, it was the same with Obama's convention speech. All the pundits called it flat, ripped Obama for not being Bill Clinton, went on and on about how he failed to deliver a knockout ... then the polls started to climb.

I don't know if there are enough undecideds left to cause a poll swing in either direction, but it certainly could go either way here. Still, I sure wish we had some of the right's commitment to our candidate. They freakin' HATE Romney, but I guarantee they still would have backed up his performance, right or wrong. And since we certainly could back up the president on his FACTS, if not his performance, we don't. We just ... curl up in the fetal position. Kills me. Happens every time.

It's frustrating that out much better candidates don't get a similar defense but rather a passive sort of "let's judge them and see how they did" sort of attitude. This is politics and we need to support the Democrats. If we did, the Republicans with their anti-choice, warmongering, trickle down crap would not be nearly as numerous - they would be on the margins. It's as if Democrats are afraid to support anything, lest they be called cheerleaders or the like.
