2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton Cast in Underdog Role as New Hampshire Votes
Polls show that Mrs. Clinton is facing a stiff challenge from Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist from the neighboring state of Vermont. With Mrs. Clinton eking out only the narrowest of wins in last weeks Iowa caucuses, both sides are bracing for the possibility of a long, drawn-out primary slog.
A CNN/WMUR poll on the eve of the primary shows Mr. Sanders with a huge 26-point lead over Mrs. Clinton. A UMass Lowell/7News poll gives him a 16-point lead in the Granite State, while a polling average of recent surveys by the website Real Clear Politics gives him a narrower 13.3-point lead.
With Mr. Sanders expected to win, the margin of victory will be closely watched. If Mrs. Clinton keeps it close, her campaign will chalk it up as a victory of sorts. But a blowout for Mr. Sanders will boost his momentum heading into states where he was expected to have weaker showings.

Bernie Sanders is expected to win by 30%. If Hillary Clinton manages to narrow the gap to 20%, it will be a huge accomplishment. It would be a win. She would be the comeback kid.

(6,960 posts)She was never an 'underdog' and a lot of Hillarians would be angry to see her described as an 'underdog'.
That you now have to resort to labelling her an 'underdog' just shows how desperate must be the Clinton campaign today.
This is Hillary Clinton ... it is her turn; she's the most qualified candidate ever; she has hundreds of millions of dollars in superPAC funds to spend; she has thirty years in high profile politics; she's head of a multi-multi-millions dollar Foundation; she's many times over multi-millioniaire; she hobnobs with the elites of the nation and world; the Democratic Party establishment is in the tank for her; etc.
No way is Hillary Clinton anything so plebeian as an 'underdog'.
By the way, I wouldn't bring up the "come back kid" reference ... you are probably too young to remember but that was the line used by Bill Clinton because he finished second in New Hampshire in 1992 after the Gennifer Flowers scandal.
Oh, and nobody ever seriously maintained that Sanders was ever going to win by 30 percent. And a 20 percent loss is crushing ... indeed, a 10 percent loss is a landslide loss ... and even five percent is usually considered a significant loss.
I guess you are expecting a pretty good walloping of Mrs. Clinton or you wouldn't be trying to set such low expectations for 'the inevitable one'.
