Bernie Sanders is no revolutionary

For a guy running against the establishment, Bernie Sanders sure seems to crave its approval.
In New Hampshire last week, the Democratic presidential candidate put out an ad touting his endorsements that gave the false impression that two local newspapers the Nashua Telegraph and the Valley News had endorsed him. An early version of the ad overtly claimed the papers had endorsed him. They had done no such thing.
Sanders did the same in Iowa, running a nearly identical ad Hes been endorsed for real change, the narrator said that left the strong and wrong impression the Des Moines Register was among those endorsing him. The paper had endorsed Hillary Clinton.
Also in Iowa, Sanders sent out campaign mailers that included the logos of the League of Conservation Voters and AARP, according to Newsweek, even though AARP does not endorse and the League of Conservation Voters endorsed Clinton.
In Nevada, Sanders campaign staffers allegedly misrepresented themselves as Culinary Union members, wearing union pins, so they could gain access to employee dining rooms on the Las Vegas Strip and campaign for Sanders. After Nevada journalist Jon Ralston reported this, the union, which had made no endorsement, said it was offended by the multiple instances of falsifying.......................

(29,798 posts)The endorsement ads clearly differentiated between the endorsements as endorsements and the positive quotes from several local outlets that had not endorsed.

(643 posts)This is pretty weak. You're right, the Des Moines Register did not endorse Sanders prior to the caucus. They did, however, call for an investigation afterward, saying "something didn't smell right." How about we stick to the issues, rather than slinging mud?

(29,798 posts)The ad simply quoted the text of their stated opinion. The ones that were endorsements were labeled "Endorsement" in big bold letters.

Washington Post reporters Dana Milbank and Jonathan Weisman gave the McCain campaign a nipple-stiffening moment today after they picked up a statement by Barack Obama, and used it, apparently, entirely out of context, presenting it for the consumption of Post readers in a way that made it look like Obama was being arrogant.
For Milbank's part, it was all because he wanted to wedge the statement into his preferred frame: "Barack Obama has long been his party's presumptive nominee. Now he's becoming its presumptuous nominee." I believe it was Oscar Wilde who cautioned: "Reality is a MADE thing."
And, as it turns out, Milbank's "reality" is something of a deconstruction. Milbank's remake reads:

I don't think she was responsible for doing that, but her campaign gave a big jumpstart to the birthers.
When Sanders campaign stoops to that level, let me know and we can talk about hypocrisy.

(47,803 posts)Not all of them have good judgement, some get carried away by enthusiasm and a small percentage are ethically challenged.
Just like any campaign.
This delicacy seems misplaced considering some of the slimeballs that have been associated with Clinton's campaigns. I'll take someone who thinks its okay to use a logo inappropriately (or doesnl;t understant trademark law) , or put on a union button over a Mark Penn or Rahm anyday.

(643 posts)If this is really all you've got, since Clinton clearly loses when we actually debate the issues, then fire away with this weak stuff if it makes you feel better.
