Related: About this forumBernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren Have Defeated Hillary Clinton's Political Machine
Several years before Bernie Sanders zoomed towards a virtual tie in national polls with Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren began the discussion about Wall Street's influence in American politics. Warren even declared in 2014 that a portion of President Obama's Omnibus bill "was written by Citigroup lobbyists." Few politicians have directly accused investment banks of writing U.S. laws.
The Massachusetts Senator was able to introduce the topic on a national stage, and even though Sanders has spent his entire career championing the same message, she succeeded in publicizing a sense of urgency. Warren paved the way for Bernie, and in doing so, helped the Sanders campaign undermine Hillary Clinton's enormous political machine; a monstrosity that benefits from the status quo. I explain why Bernie Sanders has already made Clinton's political machine implode in the following YouTube segment.
The Atlantic has a provocative piece by Conor Friedersdorf that all Americans should read titled Hillary Helps a Bank--and Then It Funnels Millions to the Clintons. Let's just say the article gives some insight into why Hillary Clinton is paid millions for speaking engagements. If you haven't read Friedersdorf's article, then you won't know why there's so much desire to read Clinton's speech transcripts.
Hillary Clinton's political machine, which runs on a peculiar form of "honest graft," as stated by Walter Russel Mead, has been undermined by a political revolution within the Democratic Party, and within American politics.
Nobody has been able to highlight why Bernie Sanders is needed by African Americans, Latinos, and all Democratic voters better than Tim Black in this powerful segment of Tim Black TV. Only Bernie Sanders has harnessed the full power of an electorate disgusted with politicians yet to disclose the transcripts of million dollar speeches. Nothing defines establishment politics better than a Democrat who takes money from the same interest that harm core constituencies of the Democratic Party.

(13,877 posts)use a little over the top. Lord knows there's a sea of it on the opposite side. This upsets me politically. I mean, someone leans left, and we're all ............. Ooohhhh ..... he's not pure?
I find myself agreeing with his article then have to go to the comments to get the proverbial cold water. Give a rest already, please. Some of us, perhaps newcomers and really Lefties, like to hear an argument we actually can get behind.

(10,125 posts)This thing is far from over and Hillary is still the favorite handily. So claiming Bernie has beaten the Clintons is over the top

(13,877 posts)Same group. Same meme. And who knows, when liberal/progressive people decide to stop the "I love Bernie but he is unelectable" meme...Goodman will be right. It's just that we're inundated with the opposite, so it becomes so...by default. Even on DU.
I think the Iowa election was stolen, and so do many others...but he was not electable?
Hillary will defeat herself, of that I feel certain. It's not like we've not been here before. And no, Bernie is not Obama. But he has what it takes.

He's kind of like a poster on a forum who is blindly loyal and wildly optimistic.
If he's not taken too seriously, folks won't be disappointed.
I'm suspicious of the Iowa results as well.
I don't know if Bernie will be able to beat Hillary yet. Nevada & South Carolina will shed some light on that. Even then, we'll still be guessing. The mainstream media might be just toying with us.
I worry about whether Hillary can win the general election. So much baggage. So much Koch money to remind Americans of that baggage. And the Clinton Foundation ...

(13,877 posts)There is the "Hillary hatred factor" that bothers me A Lot, especially as a woman. It is gender. It's not subtle. It's not normal. It's not even close to being reasonable. But it's there.
I have to stay positive and believe that Bernie will come out in the Primary and, when people get to know him and his message, in the GE. There isn't a Republican even close...and then there's Trump. Bernie has said specifically he hopes to run against Trump. I can see why.
Jarqui
(10,125 posts)but it's nothing like what they're going to do to Hillary. The GOP do hate her.
The thing is in these polls particularly against Trump: Trump is widely known. Bernie is not widely known yet. So his poll numbers are likely to rise in these general election matchups,
Everybody knows Hillary so she's floating near her ceiling.
There's no doubt in my mind, Bernie would make the better and safer candidate in the general election. He already has better numbers there than Hillary does. He's more electable not just because of where he is now but where his numbers are likely to go -> up while Hillary stays flat.

(4,186 posts)Bernie is still the insurgent underdog...and the establishment and corporate media will throw everything they have if he starts winning primaries he isn't supposed to.

(6,436 posts)the only way Trump or Cruz could win if they had Bernie to demonize. Their work on HRC will look like a tea party - no pun intended - compared to what they will do with Sir Good at Heart self proclaimed 'socialist' (Democratic-socialist -- trivial distinction to GOP propagandists).

Even if Sanders loses the Democratic Party cannot go back to business as usual without risking destroying itself.
